DONT freak out.. can you explain the knocking sound? How many miles on the bike?

Is there power to the headlights? If so good.

Did the knocking seem high in the engine or low? wait for the bike to cool down, does it wanna turn over then? if so, it's not what you think it is.

when the knocking started, did it feel as to have lost power? like you where on one cylinder?

Low oil?
Knocking?
White smoke?
Won't turn over?

Let's not sugar coat it, all those conditions are symptomatic of a failed big end/main/balance shaft bearing  :dunno_black:

Currently 17800 it had 16400 when I got the bike 2 months ago and the knocking sounded like if you dropped a rock inside of the engine and it was playing ping pong 🙃😩then it started twice after that I started the bike it had a lighter knock with a tick and both sounds were at the same pace as the engine idling

Also it was high in the engine and it had a loss of power as if I was running low on gas best description I possibly have

tick tick tick or mainly knock knock knock? does it stay in one place or sound as if its moving up and down? just for giggles you could grab a set of feeler gauges and check clearance between shim and cams. as the other one said i wont sugar coat it either. just hope and pray its a shim clearance issue. id check oil by draining it and see if theres anything metallic in it. and go from there.

I'm not sugar coating it, but lets be honest. GS makes some weird noises.

next step would be to drain the oil and looks for BIG particles.

I'm speaking from experience here, My GS recently made this EXACT noise, Sounded like someone took a handful of marbles and chucked them in there. and it DIED. towed it home, and it started up for a brief second the next day. I've torn it down about 1/3 of the way. Besides warn clutch plates, and 1 broken bolt [Always...] I've yet to find the cause.. Valves seem fine, pistons look good [scoping down into the sparkplug hole]

I'm suspecting it was actually the spark signal generator going bad.. and it was detonating the fuel with a sparkplug not quite closed yet, and forcing the sparkplug closed [loss of power, loud marbley sound] I will SOMEDAY finish tearing it down [not like I haven't been down there already.. :)]

as something went wrong, but I've yet to determine WHAT. exactly and that's why I want the OP to stay calm, because it sounds like my exact situation. Running fine, without a hint of anything wrong, then All the sudden, clunky click clunk.

I would like to point out, it was late afternoon, in florida in the 90's and in stop and go traffic light traffic, so the bike was HOT. and we all know when those electronic bit gets HOT, is when it acts up.

All this f%$king about!!!! It's all worthless conjecture and no real help.

Get the plugs out, get the cover off the pickups, get a spanner on the bolt and try to turn the engine over. My guess is that it will be solid, if it's not, as well as being extremely lucky you might just have a slim chance of saving it.
