Title: Any DYI ideas for velocity stacks or...
Post by: Codoloco on August 05, 2017, 02:02:50 PM
I have pod filters on my bike right now but am looking at velocity stacks or am considering putting my lunchbox back on.  The carbs are stock, never been rejetted and I'm wondering if I have to rejet with the lunchbox and slip on... Im looking for shortcut due to laziness probably or if I have to take them off and rejet I will.    Ive seen at trick with washers and pod filters but maybe someone has done that before.
Velocity stacks with pods, Pods or Lunchbox?

What?

Once you change anything about your intake, you'll need to rejet the carbs.

yup. these bikes run on the lean side bone stock. if it were me, id  go lunchbox with the slipon and the rejet. ( get with buddha, he knows jetting. im sure others do here as well, but ive always went with him as far as these matters.

Shortcut lazy solution is to put the stock air box back on. Stock jets must make it super lean with pods or lunchbox.

I'll put the lunchbox back on and message Buddha, I shouldn't even consider shortcuts considering rejetting is not that bad.  Thanks!!

I have 2001 GS500 carbs on my 82 450 and I have velocity stacks on (with some foam filter over the top).

I love the throttle response with the stacks, but I searched extensively for suitable stacks and had to end up buying some generic ones that I had to modify to fit. I had to shorten them to clear the frame rails, cut some slots so I could clamp them down, and then in the end make a bit of a spacer as the diameter was a bit big after shortening.

The 500 carbs flow well, but the inlet is 60mm diameter from memory which is significantly larger than most others, so most stacks around the place are for 54mm or so, meaning your choices are limited.
