First off let me start by saying, I know this may seem like I'm kicking a dead horse here and the topics been gone over..
I'm looking for a new round-ish headlight assembly. housing + bulbs. I currently have an 8" round on there that, frankly seems a bit too large for the bike, I think a 7" or even a 6" would be more ideal. but I'm looking for something BRIGHT that actually lights up the road too, now before I go off an buy a J.W. Speaker 8790 Adaptive LED 7" Headlight and put it on the GS500. [go ahead, go look at the price... People pay that much FOR a gs500] I'm trying to get a good idea of what isn't crap, and what would actually work good. I run LED's all around the bike so I don't really "NEED" an LED headlight as I've already saved power all around, and since my bike is a GS500F too, there was some "upgrades" done in the F model for the extra light upfront, [thicker wires mainly] I do a lot of night riding here, and would like to be able to see the roads, and not rely on the car behind me to see for me... :icon_rolleyes:
800lb boar don't move really fast and I really DON'T want to hit one doing 45mph on a very slight curved road, but enough that if you locked up the brakes you're low-siding for sure.
When you say, "whole headlight assembly" do you mean you need the bucket and mounting bracket too?
I have had good luck with the LED light on my GS. It's worlds better than the stock headlight and was pretty affordable. But it's just a lamp assembly, you'd have to have the original bucket/mounting stuff from an E model or work something else out, aftermarket etc. There is universal stuff available, I've never tried any of it.

A bright headlight is sooooooo important. Seems like a duh statement but I've read posts here and there (fb) where people show off a "custom" headlight and when asked how bright it is etc they are like, "Oh I don't know... don't really ride much in the dark so it's all good." -_-
I was actually just thinking that while on my way home from work at 3am this morning. Every time I ride in the dark now, I think about how glad I am that I swapped out my headlight.
No, I don't need a bracket, just the headlight housing/bulbs/any ballast.
while I have nothing against LED headlights, lots of them are cheap, and don't give you visible/view able light, and just blind on-coming traffic instead..
problem is there's so many knock offs of knock offs, its hard to weed out the junk. I've considered making custom headlight, but there's already so much for me to do, that I think it would be better/easier to just to find a pre-built something.

If you've got the front cowling with stock headlight, you could consider a projector mod. I suppose it could be done in a round as well. Lotsa known good projectors out there.

Obviously close up doesn't make it look like a huge difference high vs low, but it is on the road when it opens that top. And bulb wasn't warmed up so it gets brighter than that too - snapped pics just after I turned it on.

Sun Yee ( which SAYS it is an Australian company) has twin projector led 7" headlight assemble with proper cutoff shape ( for right hand drive) on sale at present. If I had some thing I wanted a round headlight on that would be my choice. It says in the title Jeep headlight and there is 2 for the price. I was tempted anyway. Be willing to bet they are available for left hand drive as well somewhere.

I took the dive on a cheap cheap 7" LED projector headlight for mine, to be honest it's a massive upgrade on stock and have the right cut offs with plenty of additional light.
Problem I faced was that our headlight glass/reflector unit has the left/right adjustment hanger built into it... so you have to source a three ring mounting system for it. I was lick my cousins xj650 had been down graded by a previous owner to a 7" from and 8" and I was able to swap my halogen unit for his rings.
All shots are low then high.

Every light looks bright if you put it 2 inches from your eyes. :D

Haha yeah true that, but in this case the light is amazing on the road. High beam hits all the road signs for what feels like 1klm =)
The spread do the beam is enough on low that I get clear site of the sides of the road for things that might run out in front of me etc.
