Either my battery or starter motor has died in my 82 GS450, if it happens to be the starter does anyone know if the 500 starters are a direct swap in the 450's? A lot of other stuff on the bottom end is so I'm hopeful...
If it is the case, it's likely just a new set of brushes will fix it but I've already had to repair it once when two of the stationary magnets were no longer stationary, and one of those broke in two, so it's never cranked like it used to.
If it needs repairing again, I figure it might be better just to replace it... 450 ones are hard to come by here but 500 ones come up reasonably often and a lot of times aren't too expensive.
They have a number on them. Suzuki numbered these things with the first bike that part appeared on. So the same number = same part.
Only the part before the - matters I think.
I dunno - I used to know LOL.
Cool.
Buddha.
Pete, I can't give you a definite answer..... but I can't imagine them not interchanging. I say go for it!!
Cheers guys... yep Buddha I've never looked at the 500 part number... probably should do that considering I do it for everything else
I reckon you're right Rich, definitely worth a shot!
Fortunately this time it's definitely the battery, new one in as of yesterday and she's cranking better than she has in a while.
Will do further checking though as the starter will inevitably have an issue at some point.
