Title: Generator magnet part.
Post by: J_Walker on October 20, 2017, 03:01:39 PM
So the generator, the magnet part, mine has GOATs has for awhile been ignoring it. decided since I'm in the engine to take it off. I did the m14x1.5 bolt method, it flung off, and one of the rollers for the clutch popped off in the back, and one of them doesn't even move, pretty sure It's FUBAR'd I'm guessing not from my doing.. is there an option besides $233.95 ?? for brand new? Those Allen bolts on the back of it, AREN'T coming out for me.

It's been awhile since I replaced mine, but I'm pretty sure I bought a 1989 generator magnet off eBay with the starter clutch attached to it for ~$90. Easiest to replace both at once. The 1989 rotors look different from later years and it is my theory that they are less susceptible to goats. Suzuki seams to always figure out how to make parts cheaper over the years, not better.

I'm thinking about slapping some high temp epoxy on it myself. the only thing I'm worried about with doing that is throwing the balance off. they are balanced if you look at the back you can see where they just take a regular drill bit and drill a couple of holes to remove material.

Suppose I could try to balance it myself after the fact. getting it clean and oil free so far has been a real PITA. wish there was a way to extreme degrease the thing without buying gallons of purple power and throwing it in a 5 gallon bucket.

Got those allen bolts off btw. and seemed to of fixed my problem, nothing a small punch and anvil couldn't solve and a rotary tool w/ sanding disk.
