Title: carbs on the GS

Hey guys looking at buying a bare engine then the carbs afterwards what i want to know is on the gs500 do the carbs change say from 1998 upwards ?

i have saw a 1998 engine i want but im just curious if say 2005 or 2007 carbs will fit i know the jets will be different

It's the 2001+ carbs that are different, in addition to the 3 jet arrangement the openings are slightly different sizes and/or shapes.

As long as you have the proper intake side and engine side boots they will work with whatever year engine you have.

yeah, you just need the boots to the 2005 carbs between the engine and carbs, if you get 2005 carbs.

There are at least # different carb models.
Early 2main jet ones. Later 3 jet ones with no electrical connection and no extra vacuum connections and the later TPS and run on electricals with extra vacuum connections and 2 electrical connections ( TPS for the ECU and the switch for the whiote vacuum switches). As far as i know anyway.

Aside from the intake boots, don't the later carbs also require a matching throttle cable & right hand throttle assembly?

i don't mind about the throttle cable as the engine is going into a custom chopper :)
