Title: Ignition switch replacement
Post by: 1034am on November 25, 2017, 09:29:05 AM
Hello, I'm changing the key-operated switch with a remote control device (on a 2004 CF Moto V3) and I am not sure about the wiring. The remote control device is a simple on/off controlled by a key fob.
On the bike, the key-ignition has 5 wires on the plug:1-hot, 2-grounds, & 2 different wires that I assume power the bike.
Using a multimeter what things do I test for? Why would it have 2 separate ground wires?
Thoughts?

1. the answers are probably given in the wiring diagram. Google it, you'll find scans from the Haynes manual.

2. you will get more attention on this if you move this topic to the General Discussion forum rather than Odds n Ends. FYI. Usually this forum is mostly way OT stuff.

Yeah, I have the wiring diagram, but it only shows 1 ground wire. I am planning on trying to jump hot to one of the 2 non-grounds and see if I get lights (then, see if it cranks.)
I'm not too familiar with cut-off switches (kill switch, kickstand cutoff, etc) and was thinking that may account for the extra wires. There are 3 key positions: off, on, & gas tank release)
Ignition block is really heavy, remote unit weighs almost nothing and does the same job.
