Title: 99' gs burning oil...
Post by: karneck on March 01, 2004, 03:10:56 PM
my 99 stock gs is burning a LOT of oil...something like lets see...1 lt. of oil each 50 miles...heh...
here in Brazil, we call the service to be made of: "make the engine" like "oh, now we're gonna have to make the engine in your gs" heheh...
oh god...1 week on foot now :(
The only fear that I'm having now is that my bike was abused before I got my hands on it. She has 70.000km. With a problem of this magnitude? Oh well...

Well, this may be a stupidquestion, but did you check for oil leaks? The oil filter cap is amidst the engine block and could probably have the bolts vibrate loose and cause a leak. I know you have a rather high mileage bike, and it could be a compression leak or something, but as my dad always told me, "Keep It Simple, Stupid" Good luck trying to fix it

At 1 liter per 50 miles I don't see anyway it wouldn't be smoking like mad unless its just dumping it on the ground. Thats about a quart of oil per gallon of gas. Even by 2-stroke standards, thats ALOT of oil.

Will it even run at that amount of useage.

I would guess the thing would probably run, but you would get less smoke if you lit the tires on fire.
