Title: carbruettor rebuild kit
Post by: chopperwoo on January 02, 2018, 10:54:36 AM
Hey guys so looking at doing a rebuild on these carbs and i have come across a taiwan rebuild kit for both carbs for £27 im in the UK and as im aware our slow jet was a 40 and our main was a 122.5

but for the uk the only difference is its a 40 slow jet not a 37.5

now if i was to put the american kit in which they are selling will it make much of a difference ?

If you put in a 37.5 pilot jet, it'll idle more lean.

I'd keep the 40 pilot jet. Probably don't need to replace the jets. Actually probably don't need a carb rebuild kit, just a bunch of o-rings and a float needle valve for each carb. But that's not the question you asked :)

I thought UK bikes were 40/125 - and that is the ideal jetting for a stock bike or slip on with stock air filter.
122.5 - well do 125.
Cool.

Take care with carb kits: aftermarket are not always manufactured with the precision of the original parts.

Here you are a couple of float valve needles and their seat:
- Right are original,
- Left are from a keyster kit, and bet they are K&L.

The spring in the back is very strong and it caused some fuel starvation problems. I replaced with a Tourmax and it got better.
The seat is better designed in the original one: the Viton rubber sits on a flanged seat, preventing fast wearing. The aftermarket one seats on an edge: it shuts fuel, but seat will easily leave marks on rubber surface.
The non original needle is 0.3mm longer, so the fuel bowls do not get propperly full. Hopefully there are tolerances and they work, but...
The worst is to use a original seat with the aftermarket needle: float will not match the specified fuel height in the bowl, so you will need to mess with the metal tab in the floats.

Some years ago I rebuilt a couple of Yamaha RD350 Mikuni VM26 carbs, again with Keyster kits. The parts were manufactured very close to original, they were really a great kit, but the jets were a complete rubbish: they were noticeabley bigger. I ordered a couple of original mikuni jets and I culd save the carbs. They work very well.

Advice: Carb Rebuild Kits are great, but replace only the parts that are worn out, and always check and recheck.

If you only need the rubber seals, you better go and get them: they are all standard sizes, metric, with thickness 1 and 1.5mm, except #29 in next diagram, that is 1,35mm thick (use a 1.5mm)

I've had no problems with the wemoto carb stuff - they seem to be a lot closer to the original parts than that K&L kit you've got.

What parts do you need specifically?
