Title: New member, New owner, New rider.
Post by: thenorthstarrx on March 01, 2018, 06:12:42 PM
Hey There!

So I picked up a '96 GS500E from Spider-Man:  Homecoming (you'd almost never see it unless I told you where in the movie it is).  The bike started up fine when I bought it, but it needs some SERIOUS help.  Been spending most of the day researching parts and trying to make good purchases to put it back together.  I have quite a list, and I want to turn this into a bike I can sincerely enjoy.  I have the bike somewhat torn down (all plastics off, handlebars off, clutch out, engine covers off, fuel tank off...etc etc).  But finding some of these parts can be super hard.  I'm trying to avoid dealer pricing, because I feel like there's a better, more cost effective aftermarket.  Do you guys have sites you enjoy shopping for parts at?  I couldn't find any stickies in particular, but noticed some things for sale on here.

In any case, looking forward to learning and chatting with you guys, and looking forward to the fun of riding.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the bike purchase!!

My favorite places to buy parts from are eBay and motosport.com. I'm a thrifty gal and I've always found the best prices on OEM at motosport, after comparing to bikebandit.com and partzilla.com.

i also gave the ft/ft section here a go when parts were needed. found a set of forks for 115. a COMPLETE set. course this was 2003 soooo, but prices here in the twin, many times are cheaper if said parts are avaiable. BUT we all share advice freely. so if any questions, let us know . we will do our best to answer, and yes the unwritten law, pics are required lol. and welcome to the nuthaus.

Just fix it up to learn on, and cruise.  Seems like a great starter bike to not only get comfortable with riding, but to also learn how to wrench on.  I may pretty it up some - paint/powder coat some stuff.  Probably do a lot of the mods on pantablo500 (headlight, taillight, turn signals).  Maybe get an R6 shock...who knows.  Depends on how well I can build it, and how easily/inexpensively I can find parts.

I didn't take many pics before I tore it apart...but here are some of it somewhat dismantled.  You can see some of the things I need in the pictures.

We played it in two spots, one was on the ferry where a bunch of bad guys got whipped back and forth into the cars and motorcycles.  The other was at the temple where Iron Man drives off.
