Title: Suzuki GS500 Strange Idle
Post by: invyBiker on April 28, 2018, 09:48:01 AM
Hi

I just bought an 03 GS500 that only has 8 thousand miles on the clock. I rode it the 20 miles home and the bike behaved well, except that it would idle around 1000rmp (maybe a little lower) and then would just cut out. So I nursed the throttle and got her home, I then went to adjust the idle speed screw to see if that was the problem and managed to drop the bike on the right hand side in the garage (don't ask!). I then adjusted the screw a little and it was holding idle around 1300 without choke but I realised that when I rev the bike and then close the throttle, the revs stay high, an don't drop back down or only do very slowly. I don't know if dropping the bike could have caused the problem, or if I've done something else wrong. Any thoughts?

Any advice would be massively appreciated.

Thanks

Only 8000 miles in 15 years suggests to me you'll need to get the carbs off to clean/replace gaskets. Low mileages on old bikes are not so great in my opinion.
