Title: Is my rear shock cactus?
Post by: user11235813 on May 17, 2018, 02:13:59 AM
Top of shock is clean but it looks like a lot of oil around the bottom part of the shock. Or is it normal for this part of the bike. I haven't really ever degreased the bottom of the shock.

Yup its a cactus. It was a cactus long before you saw oil anywhere ... it was cactus before Suzuki put it in the bike.
Of course your oil could just be crap flying out of the vent tube form airbox, or chain lube or just plain crap off the road.

Look for oil rings on the rod above the seal. Then its truly cactus because of you. Its like double cactus, one of which is because of you.

All you need then is a camel, and you're set for the desert.

R6 shockie is overrated ... its pretty as fduck, but it sets up the rear too high and I think it is harsh as ... well a cactus.
I am still in the katana RF600 bandit 1200 and believe it or not my fave - the pre remote reservoir GSXR750 (I think 85-88)
Get the R6 if you find one cheap, else get a Kat or RF or GSXR.

It's done now, I've been waiting for a decent one to turn up in Australia but ovah here they are as hard to find as hens beaks in a battery shed.

Found a 2012 in mint condition and even with shipping it's only the same price I'd have to pay for a crappy one here. Plus it's red which means an extra 1-2 hp. https://www.ebay.com/itm/202291556018

Yamaha sheite has to be bloo, only then it adds 3hp.
Unless your bike is the same red, then the whole bike subtracts 5hp while the shock adds a cactus.

This is what's available in Oz

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/YAMAHA-R6-2006-07-REAR-SHOCK-OEM-USED-GOOD-CONDITION/152711584586

Old model, no linkage even with shipping that doubled the price still only came to $200 AUD!

Yup, that's the cactus you want, unlike a katana shock, which may be a cactus.
Have you figured out how to get that piggy back in there with your airbox ??? or if the airbox cactus already ???

Cool.

Used to get Mountain-Dew "Spiked" Lemonade with Prickly-Pear fruit juice almost every day.  Not sure if it was available country-wide or just regionally.  Basically caffeinated strawberry lemonade, it was awesome!  Can't find it anymore.   According to the Wiki it was discontinued due to "alcohol related deaths" from drinking it.  Makes literally zero sense since, despite the name "spiked," it contained no alcohol...  Unless kids were mixing it with Vodka and suffered alcohol poisoning, but I fail to see how that's Mountain Dew's fault...

Also had a straight prickly-pear soda at some point, that in it of itself had sort of a sour strawberry flavor.

Haven't had Saguaro fruit yet, and as it's a protected plant I can't just pick one out of the wild.  You need a special tool for that anyway, Saguaro are pretty darn tall...

I'm partial to the peyote! Prickly pear is illegal to grow here in Oz, it's a mad pest.

I am yet to eat one of these, but there is a bike dealer in town with a huge cactus in their parking lot. I am not opposed to foraging, but I don't want to do so from so close to the road. I'll try the Mexican market sometime. Ooo isn't there a prickly pear flavored vodka by texas son. BTW texas son is awesome vodka. I just finished a bottle of Khorysta that I scored for 50% off. Time to get the next 1/2gal.
Throw a bunch of coffee beans in vodka and let it chill out a few days and it makes an awesome drink, just don't use the good vodka, cheap crap works better, so does cheap gin and cheap whisky.
Cool.
