I really miss a gear indicator... I confess!
However, I do not like these magnetic sensor knickknacks... I never tried, but, I don't believe they are reliable, furthermore, they are expensive and difficult to install
The ideal is to get the information (gear position) directly from the gear rod!!! there is no other PROPPER way!
One of these days popped into my mind an idea... believing that many parts on a bike follow factory standards, I searched for gear positioning sensor from other suzukis... and guess what.
The results of my "research" was a laugh!
The gear (neutral sensor) for a gs in my country currency is 130..

Note that it comes with one contact only.
In the other hand... the GN 125:

I already installed the sensor in my gs... the neutral indicator is working perfectly!
NOW... I ordered this:

I guess that in US you can do it with about 20 dollars or less.
I am not 100% certain that it will work exactly as expected... so before giving my Approval Stamp (lol) better to wait untill it is finished and tested.
In about 60 days.. the display will arrive... then I finish this post.. with more detailed info about the installation.

I'd be interested if this works myself, dug around some and found this tidbit about someone who's neutral light stayed on all the time on their gn125. Could be it's for the side stand switch?
"The side stand switch set up usually has three points to trigger it, the side stand switch it self, a clutch switch (usually located under the clutch lever like the front brake switch for the tail light, and the neutral switch, (located near the gear lever shaft, usually a pale green wire).
Sounds like you're friend has grounded the neutral switch, so the system always thinks is in neutral.
Put the neutral sender wire back where it is supposed to be, cut the wires from the side stand switch and join the two wires together..."

Sorry, I could be more specific when talking about that green loose wire.
It came as a branch from the 6° gear.
Those annotations that I posted was readings directly from the switch installed on the motorcycle when changing gears.
I connected the multimeter positive wire on the battery + and tested each terminal until get the 12V readings while engaging the gears...
So .. seems that everything is working as it should
The part number that I am using is
37720-45f10-000
Wonder if the one I ordered will work then. 37720-44700 is what I found, but it doesn't have the extra green wire connection that you have.

the project turned out to be solid and reliable when working. :woohoo:
only problem was , at least for the red led set, when direct sun hit over it.. becomes bit dificult to see the numbers.
Maybe the blue can be better , however just a cover can solve it

Looks good. I have the blue indicator, but I haven't gotten around to starting that project yet. Glad to see it works.

I dint used the N ant the display... because not worth the trouble as the neutral light works at it should.

sorry, was not only my voice an English that was shitty.. also was my memory,,, actually I used not A green cable to extract the 12v, instead, I used an ORANGE one, that comes from the keyswitch.
I can't understand why you need a gear indicator. If the gear you are in isn't pulling hard enough change down, if the valves are bouncing change up.
I drive 18 speed overdrive eaton boxes and they don't have gear indicators. I just don't get it. :dunno_black:
Gear indicator helps you to get consistency when riding in track and in roads that you are familiar with.
For instance, you know that "that" turn is a 3rd gear, the other is a 5th gear, and so on.... If you like to travel, sightseeing... etc... this has no point. Makes sense just for when you know the "circuit/road" that you are riding in.
Together with visual makers (to brake and turn) you stop to ride in the "seat of one's pants" style, and start to get in a more "technical ridding".
Some peolple (old timers lol) used to count to keep track of the gears... nowadays, however, gear indicator ar present in most of the sport bikes.

Maybe I am old school but I can't say I have ever felt the need for one. I can understand the sense of achievement from constructing something likes this but to me it's just something that draws your attention from the things that matter and it wouldn't alter the way I ride or control the bike in the slightest :dunno_black:
Again, this is aimed for sporting ridding and sport ridding only. It will not make sense outside this point of view.
Is not a mandatory instrument, indeed!
However even very... very... very (and every) experienced riders use it... including motogp ones
What I mean is: it is not a trinket or a useless toy.

Now when you say it, there indeed is some carbon fiberish effect :). But still, I think I'll do some post processing; a little filler, sanding and spray paint.
