Hello guys,
I have problem with my GS500.
I start bike and warm it up for 10 seconds on full choke, and then I close choke on half.
Then i take off,and bike runs by itself without me adding throttle. All i need is to steer and break.
If i start the bike without choke,it shuts off.
If i take off with choke and then turn choke off completely while riding bike looses power and it starts to slow down until it stops completely even after i try to add throttle.
I heard i should ride under choke for max 15 minutes,but it's pretty dangerous,since i don't control throttle,only steering and breaking.
What can i do to ride bike normally without it runs by itself?
PS
i charged battery 2 months ago,and i ride bike 7-8 times since then, and battery is already dead-is that normal lifespan for battery after recharging?
Start the bike with full choke. Report back what speed it idles at. It should get up to about 3000rpm, then slowly turn the choke down till it idles at 1500 to 2000 rpm, leave it for a minute then turn it down to about 1500 and ride off. You should be able to turn the choke off after 5 minutes. After 15 minutes of riding what speed does it idle at, it should idle at 12-1300rpm if not you might need to turn the idle speed up.
Battery is a separate issue, it may be bad or charging circuit may be bad. This is a separate issue. How long have you had the bike what is its history, what work have you done. Do you have a multimeter you might need one to check the battery and charging circuit.

Hello guys,
I have problem with my GS500.
Nope, that's normal behavior. It will "idle" at 3-5K rpm with the choke on.
Once you are under way you can turn the choke down to half or less, basically just leave enough choke so the bike won't die when you stop but not so much as to keep the bike from idling. It will warm up faster if you let the choke stay on for like a minute and let the bike sit and run before you take off but that's not strictly necessary. Your routine is fine just turn down the choke once you get rolling.
@user11235813 it idle around 4k RPM once i start it with full choke.
As for battery,it's circa 2-3 years old.Could it be that i haven't ride it more then 7 times in 2 months, and that's the reason why is empty?
As for history of my bike,i really don't know it.I haven't done any work on it,and i don't have multimeter.
@mr72 could you tell me with what RPM should i take off BEFORE i start adding throttle for taking off?
If my bike doesn't run by itself without me giving throttle,it would be OK.
I usually ride my bike very slow to my work, could that be problem too?
