Title: GS500 brake failure
Post by: Gcook57 on July 15, 2018, 05:33:55 AM
I was riding my 2006 GS500F and when I hit the rear brake it went all the way down right there was no fluid I almost got in an accident I had to drive the rest of the way using front brake after I parked it for a while I went out and checked it and everything seemed fine I took a ride on it hit the brake hit the rear brake hard the tires getting I wondering what the heck is going on I don't want this to happen again at high speed when a car pulls out in front of me

Please learn how to end a sentence with a period, especially if you are asking for our help. I can barely tell what you are saying when you have paragraph sized run-on sentences.

Any chance you were riding with your foot resting on the rear brake pedal? If it was and the brakes were dragging slightly then the brake fluid could overheat and boil from the constant friction. At that point, the fluid doesn't function.
This could also happen if you have a rusty/sticky caliper that is getting partially stuck in the "closed" position. Do you ride in infrequently or somewhere they salt the roads in the winter? You may need to rebuild your rear caliper.

Also remember that the front brake accounts for 90%+ of your braking power in an emergency stopping situation.

Sounds like an issue with the master cylinder. What's the brake fluid level look like in the reservoir?
I'd get it checked out by a pro if you can't figure it out.

If there are no leaks and the linkage hasn't failed I suspect it's an internal fault in the master cylinder.

They can be rebuilt with service kits but you have to know what you are doing.
