Title: Differences in parts/specifications for Australian GS500F models
Post by: TheScraper on August 02, 2018, 03:53:19 AM
Howdy,

I am TheScraper from Queensland, Australia and have a question in relation to my 2009 GS500F sitting at around 29k Kilometers. I imagine this question was asked before and you are sick of reading it, but I tried to locate the information and was unable to.

I am interested in whether there are any differences for GS500F models sold in Australia in terms of carburetor jetting. Given that our climate here is very different to the United States or Europe (humidity, higher average temperatures etc.) and the fuel is likely of a different quality too, I am keen to know whether Suzuki has modified the stock engine components/carburetors jets or valves in models sold here in Australia. I am planning to use a slip on exhaust, but I am unsure about whether the same jets are used as in US/EU models.

I sent an email to Suzuki about this already and no answer was given in regards to jet sizes.

I am also experiencing an issue with the left mirror (stock standard) attached to the fairing. When driving, it is vibrating a lot to the point that it is hard to see anything in the mirror. The right mirror is perfectly fine and does not have that issue.

Does anyone have any information about those two things?

Cheers for reading my post.

I am also from QLD, and my 2006 GS500 had the same stock jetting as any other post-2004 engine I've seen mentioned (17.5 Pilots / 60 Mid Main / 130.0 Main). I changed my pilots to a 20 while keeping everything else stock and am very happy with it (apart from some oil usage, but it is just shy of 90k kms on the clock so I can't really blame it).

EDIT:
I thought I'd add that I got my jets trough MikuniOz (http://www.mikunioz.com/shop/n224-103-pilot-jet/) and couldn't be happier with their service and price. They have the mids/mains as well but I haven't had a need to buy them yet.
And while I'm sharing where I've bought parts from, http://www.precisionshims.com.au/ was really great in getting the shims I needed for the valves without buying a whole set or spending $100 on shipping from overseas.

I'm an Aussie too.
The only real way to tell if your jets are correct is on a dyno. But you have to make sure your carb's are clean and float height's are correct.
Yeah, I know i'm the only one in the world who dyno's their GS :cookoo:

Have to agree with you crackin. THE only to jet any bike with CV barbs is on a dyno. Because the valves open independant of the throttle cable ( ie via air pressure) , you cannot know what stage of the jetting structure is being used by the throttle position.
I am in Bundaberg.
I would be VERY interested in your final jetting and needle position,  if you do get it properly done on a dyno. Aussie fuel is quite different from other places. Found that out when trying to tune a KTM 690 Duke to overseas fuelling specs.
