Title: 2009 GS500f repairing my theft recovery crank issue
Post by: prichmon on August 06, 2018, 04:17:25 PM
2 weeks ago a person stole our 2009 gs500f.

Through a friendly tip we found the bike today. It was a nice bike and now borders on junk. There isn't a straight panel on the bike.

My 2 main issues:

1. The bike crashed hard on the right side smashing the ignition cover, ignitor and pickup extension piece. It looks like the locating pin was bent over in the bore. Other than a crank swap is there a reasonable repair?

2. They destroyed the ring inside the tank for the locking gas cap. Is there a way to repair?

I am going to strip the bike and run it as is assuming it will run again.

any suggestions please LMK.

Thanks

If it's been over and the crank has taken a hit there is a slim chance it may have bent but other than that it's just a case of replacing the affected parts. The indexing pin is a loose fit and usually just pulls out but it can be removed with a suitable screw extractor if it has become tight.  :dunno_black:

No insurance. I had ~2 hrs worth of work to complete the bike when it was stolen.

The pin is out. The hole is tear drop shape from the rotor and pin rolling to 1 side when the rotor bolt bent. Is there an easy fix for repairing the hole?

Thanks guys,
