Title: GS 500 TCP headlight low light performance
Post by: Jessedev on August 26, 2018, 12:11:31 AM
Hello,

I recently bought myself a GS500E from 1993 with the TCP fairing kit installed. I really like the bike with the looks of the fairing kit, however when I made the first ride at night I noticed the amount of light coming from the headlight is very poor. I thought it was caused by a faulty or cheap bulb and replaced it with the Philips XtremeVision bulb. Unfortunately, this gave some, but not sufficient improvement. I think maybe the reflector at the backside of the unit is damaged.

My questions are:
- Does anyone of you have experience with driving at night with these headlights?
- Is there someone who knows a solution to this low-light problem?
- Does anyone wants to sell a good working headlight module for a reasonable price?

Cheers!

Jesse

I have one, the early one with the twin lamp setup. The lamps are not damaged and are correctly aligned but I can only describe them as adequate. I think it's just the way they are and if there was a problem with their output it wouldn't get through an MOT. The lamps are  Aprillia parts, it is actually written on them, not surprising considering TCP were a Spanish firm

You can't buy these new anymore. TCP went out of business years ago. They show up on eBay occasionally usually from Germany, France and.......Isreal! They were sold under the "Five star" name over there.
