Title: 2004 GS500F Knocking Noise Troubleshooting
Post by: xanderhaymore1000 on September 09, 2018, 03:31:58 PM
Hello,

I'm not new to riding but definitely new to the mechanical aspect. I'm attaching a video of my 2004 suzuki gs500f making a knocking sound. It occurred two days ago and I haven't ridden it since due to not wanting to risk damage.

I am not the first owner of the bike, it needed significant work (done by a mechanic) to get back to running but since then it's run beautifully and this has been the first issue. 24,000 miles. Ridden daily. Oil changed regularly. Haven't had valve work done. I'm a poor college kid and truly can't afford a mechanic so I'm hoping this will be fixable by me. In a bind, it's my only way to classes so obviously I need this revolved ASAP.

The knocking is most prominent during idle. Seems like it gets better as it revs but I can't tell if that's just because the sound is muffled by the exhaust. I've seen people talk about the CAM Chain being loose causing a similar sound but from what I understand it should go away completely after throttle is added and it does not. Just need some help. Any ideas would be great. I love this bike and it's quite literally ruined my last couple of days not being able to help my baby. :)
