Title: Budget blown!
Post by: Watcher on October 06, 2018, 07:50:56 PM
Ok, so, I got one of those muppet-style helmet cover head things.  Thought it would be fun this Halloween season for the daily commute.

Only problem is it doesn't fit my X14, and my previous Icon is on loan with a friend who is currently unavailable.
Whatever, I need to buy a smoke shield for my Icon anyway to complete the look (only had a clear and silver for it).  If I'm going to be spending money anyway I can just buy a cheap "throw away" helmet from work to use for the month and then do whatever with.  Cost to me would be dirt cheap, like <$30 even!

So after my shift I get the cheapest helmet we sell and try it on.  Hell no!  That's basically painful to wear.  Not gonna happen.
So I step up to the next cheapest model.  Not great.
Next one up, tolerable but not something I want to spend much time in.  Now I'm breaking the $50 threshold so I'm like "let's not go throw away, let's go backup".  Looking at helmets that would run me $100-150.   Still, nothing is quite satisfactory now that the criteria has changed.  The helmets are fine, good even, but not something I'd personally be satisfied spending any good length of time in, such is the curse of having the Bentley of helmets...

After looking around for a few minutes and not being quite happy, I'm thinking "the best backup for a Shoei is... Another Shoei..."
So I grab an RFSR and bring it to the register.  The price isn't great, for a gag, but the price is good, for a quality secondary helmet.

After a brief "Should I RF1200?" internel debate, I decide to minimize the damage and stick with the RFSR.

Budget WAY blown.  But, should be a good time, and I'll have a helmet that's actually worth the investment after I'm done with it!

Ugh.  Ten years ago I didn't know what I didn't know.  Now, can't get away with saving money on even a temporary lid...
At least I get a decent employee discount, still, didn't HAVE to spend 10X the cost of the gag.

Even despite, no regrets
