Title: BSR34 OEM needle valve assembly
Post by: BigKat92 on November 13, 2018, 11:38:55 AM
Hi all,

Still trying to sort out these BSR34's, and since someone has been in these carbs before me, I've come across another issue. This time, its with the float bowl needle valve assembly, which "may" have been replaced with aftermarket bits.

Q: is there supposed to be a screen fitted to the underside of the OEM piece? It would appear so from the (US K3/K4/K5 carbs) online parts diagram, and most other carbs I've worked on do have a screen filter fitted, but the photos I find on the net for that part number (13370-04F00) do not show a screen attached. The part currently in these carbs has no screen, although there seems to be a provision for one based on the look of the underside of the valve body. Confused...

Q2: Has anyone determined the correct size for a replacement o-ring on the assembly? Measuring old o-rings is a dicey business, because it measures as 10mm OD x 1.5mm thick, but that can't be correct bc the ones I have in stock from McMaster Carr in that size appear smaller than the old one. Based on online parts diagrams, this o-ring is not available separately. Any help is much appreciated.

TIA, for your kind replies.

P.S. - Does anyone else have an issue deciphering the "verification letters in the box" that you must type every time you post? And what exactly is the correct answer to "what causes the electrical arc to occur that causes the explosion in the cylinder"? I've tried to answer with spark plug, sparking plug, and coil, but my answer always get rejected.  :icon_sad:

No screen on my k3 carbs.
I have a set of orings and found ones that fit this application. Sorry, can't remember the size. Orings can stretch quite a bit. If overall volume is the same the new one should be ok.

Mine didn't and doesn't have screens on the float valve seats.  I don't know why they would put one there but don't guess its presence or absence would hurt anything.

I couldn't find dimensions, but I found a Suzuki part number 13374-35C00.  No guarantees as it's from an older, different motorcycle that uses the same carbs.

The verification goes away after a few posts.  You're almost there.

When I rebuilt my carb I just bought a generic kit of Nitrile o-rings in a bunch of different sizes, then just compared the old ones to whatever was in the kit to find one that would fit. Seems to have worked for me. (was only a cheap kit, this one:

it may fail in time, but I haven't seen any degradation yet).
The only rings I had to buy separately were for the pilot screw as the damn things are tiny.

Welcome to the forum! Cool to see another person from PA :thumb:

After your 5th post, all the verification stuff goes away. Also, if I remember right, try "sparkplug" all one word like that. I think I recall someone asking about that before.
