hey so when I start my bike choke on it will be at 4-5k. then while warming up it will jump to 6k after about a minute and stay there. I did a carb clean, not rebuild or sync just to get the bike running again, and it runs now but idles high.
Im curious what the order of operations should be to fix this. yes I could do the whole rebuild but I just want it to run right without taking it all apart again. Should I buy a manometer and do a carb sync, then adjust the idle screw to see if that fixes it? thanks
Idle speed is set too high. Redo idle mixture adjustment with it fully warmed up.

thanks for that. i think maybe some service technicians played with this idle mixture screw when the previous owner let the carbs get gummed up so that it wouldnt die from it being gummed up or so it starts easier.

Yeah, that's one of the causes of incorrect idle settings I point out on my infamous blog posts. I think that's exactly what happens, either owners or lazy mechanics do this. Also the pilot jet may be too small in which case it just makes matters worse. It's a tiny jet and easily clogged anyway, and if it's too small to begin with then the bike will not tolerate any clogging before it stops idling correctly.
