Title: Leaking from clutch/sprocket seal
Post by: TGTwin on January 08, 2019, 05:03:52 PM
The last few weeks I've noticed small oil spots under my bike. At first I thought it was just drips from accumulated chain oil, as that front sprocket area is where I can see oil/general muck collecting on the outside.
So I cleaned the chain/re-oiled it lightly, and degreased all around the front sprocket/sprocket cover, but I'm still seeing the little spots. It'll only be one spot, less than a centimeter in diameter, but there is a fresh one under my bike at the end of a work day, and another in the morning after sitting overnight.

I can't see it leaking from the oil pan gasket, but when I last pulled out the clutch actuator push rod thingy I saw there was oil on the rod and I'm not sure if there should have been. So I think that the seal that this push rod goes through could be leaking, or maybe the seal for the front sprocket shaft itself.

Has anyone had any experience with either of these seals leaking, or if anyone knows how much of a job it is to replace either of them (splitting the block?)?

Last time I had a leak around that area I thought it was coming from the gunk behind the front sprocket cover as well - cleaned it all up and the leak was still there.  Ended up coming from the Stator Cover, pulled that off, cleaned off the old gasket and put a new one on and everything was sorted.

Are you sure it's not coming from this area? It slopes down slightly from the Stator to the gear lever so appeared as if it was dripping from around the side stand area.

Similar to your issue it didn't leak when not in use, so I only saw the small oil spots after taking the bike for a spin and parking up for a while.
