Title: GS500e won't Idle without Choke
Post by: Jelziie on February 19, 2019, 06:35:52 PM
I've recently have installed new clutch plates and springs and started using iridium spark plugs.
Now whenever I start the bike it has trouble idling without the choke.
After not hearing it run for a while I can't tell if there is noise coming from different parts of the engine or not. But it appears to be as if it's only using one cylinder.
So I switched the spark plugs around and it sounds the same.

Here is a video:

Any ideas to what it might be?

Try using the plugs that were replaced.  If problem is corrected, identify differences between old and new plugs, including part #'s

If problem persists, determine if a cylinder isn't firing by checking the temperature of the exhaust runners.  No contact thermometer is best but also can be done by misting water onto the runners after starting engine.

If one cylinder is not working, swap plugs and determine if the fault follows.

After completing these, it will be easier to determine the next course of action.

Also, think in what you touched, spark plug boots could be loose., if the rubber is cracked or the fit is not tight consider changing them.
