Title: trouble with diameter of bore
Post by: dzak on February 24, 2019, 04:33:43 AM
Hello guys,
I need realy big help from you.
I made rebuild of engine but friend who made honing cylinders made bigger bore than limit for STD pistons. So I need help what will be best choise.

1) buy another used cylinder + new std piston rings and used pistons (I have used but they have some small scratches)

2) buy new oversized piston sets and make right cylinder bore diameter

So what can be better ? In both choices It will cost around 300€ (really expensive for EU, in US same parts cost 200€) and I will wait about 1 month for come new parts from Japan.

Thanks

Hi,
First get new friends .  ;). That's a tough one.

I used one of those toilet brush like honing balls to break the glaze on my bores.

How do you know it is oversize? How sure are you?

What do the new cylinders measure?

Either option is good but make sure you really need it.

I agree that both options are equally suitable.

If you can get a used cylinder for a good price option 1 is probably the cheaper option since it doesn't require a machine shop or buying oversize pistons. Those pistons are a niche product you will probably have to buy direct from Suzuki since most GS500s get neglected or crashed before needing a re-bore.

Option 2 is what you would do if GS500 parts weren't so cheap.
