Hey, all-
I recently replaced my frame petcock and fuel lines with clear Tygon fuel line that I got from another GSTwinnner. The seller included the fuel line in a sale of a frame petcock which had the black fuel lines still attached. Those lines had a mesh cover on them. They look kinda like black Chinese finger traps. Didn't think much about the mesh sleeves until reading a post on here about some fuel lines not being US DOT approved for road use, protection of fuel lines and such. I've been bopping around for a few weeks now with the nekkid Tygon line working a treat so far, but I don't want to cause trouble for my moto by treating the lines improperly. I hadn't even thought about slipping the sleeves on the Tygon lines, but are they necessary? Does anyone have experience with naked fuel lines failing? What about the protective Chinese finger trap sleeves?
Hey I just moved to a new province, and due to the mods on my 06 gs500 it'll never pass the out of province inspection. so, I was checking around and found a killer deal on a 93 in good shape, just terrible colors. so what i am interested in is how useful my 06 will be as a donor bike in general and for the gas tank and tail plastics specifically, thanks
I've got a 12v battery in my gs500 and it's run totally flat over winter. I've borrowed a charger that does 6v and 12v and have been told to charge at 6v, its been on for four hours and not moved. Should I be using 12v setting?

I need a new battery for my 1999 gs. Can anyone recommend one? All I've seen appear to need filling with acid and charging? This isn't something I've ever done before!

Any advice how to get the gs on the centre stand, I know it's technique but I just can't get it!

Hi guys, new GS500 owner here as of tonight and I already have a query/problem that I'm hoping someone could help pin point for me...
Basically upon driving home tonight it felt like both tyres were flat and causing the steering to feel loose and not accurate... I pulled over to the nearest service station to check the tyre pressures and the front was down to 21psi so I pumped it up to 30 psi which did make it feel better but it's still not right.
It's not long had an mot so I'm hoping it's not something like the swing arm bushing worn out or wheel bearings... There was no untoward knocks or bangs during the ride home and the head stock bearings seem fine when rocking the bike front and back.
Any clues or experiences with this issue? I learnt on one back in 2010 and it definitely didn't feel like this.

Hi guys.
I found out I cannot unscrew the oil removal screw in the bottom of the engine, I probably messed it up the last time I have changed my oil and it's corners are dull
I cannot reach it cleanly with a pipe wrench or any wrench for that matter because of the fins surrounding it and a socket just slips and makes it even worse.
I cannot easily move the bike to a shop since it is not in a tip top shape.
Do you have any idea other than make a cut with an angle grinder and try to spin it with a hammer and a sizzle?
Thank you(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180315/8a7b721db63824f90cf1cccf5c5a0d00.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180315/8ec898b76e049d4dfa7f290261fdcfdf.jpg)

Hi all, I recently picked up a 02 gs500. As it was sitting around for a year, I took apart the carbs and cleaned them. I also cleaned out the tank as well. I managed to have everything reassembled and with about 1.5 l of fuel, it was happy and running. This morning I took the bike to the gas station and filled 10 l of fuel and that's when I noticed my tank overflow/vent line was leaking fuel. the only way I got home was to pinch/prop the line between my seat and my tank, keeping it vertical. When I blow a bit of compressed air into the tank vent hole (under the tank lid) the hose spurted out a bit of fuel.
What has happened? My worst fear is that the vent tube inside my tank has broken and that is why I'm leaking.
The pic attached is the vent hole I mentioned.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180324/8b6a213ec03646042dad96c79c8fd3d0.jpg)

Hi everyone,
I just purchased a GS as my first bike this week. I've been browsing the forums and going through the Clynes manual researching what to do before I start riding for the season.
The bike is a '98 with 48k kms. Doesn't seem to have any major issues, but I am a little concerned about the aftermarket exhaust. While driving it back after purchase (solid 1hr highway trip) it was pointed out to me that the throttle seemed to stay high when coming to idle. I'm thinking it may not have been rejetted after the exhaust was put on. It also seems to idle a little rough around 1k rpm even after an hour of putting around.
I'm looking at taking the carb out to rejet it since I have no clue if it's been done. I'm having a bit of a hard time finding a Canadian source for parts to rebuild the carb. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the parts I need are all the o-rings, e-rings, float gaskets, main jets and pilot jets, right? Furthermore, I don't know what kind of exhaust has been put on it, other that it's a Hindle. Should I be looking to put a 150 main jet on it as indicated for many other exhausts in the rejetting FAQ?
Cheers, (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180331/c5fcf8641379fb8a1b8d82c47c647237.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180331/e9d09d2b6f7bbb8077aa1e466b093b52.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180331/cec7a32d04897fbd7c77149ad5124697.jpg)

So I have been having electrical issues since last year. I finally figured out that when the turn signal relay is plugged in the 20 amp fuse DOES NOT blow. But when it is plugged in the fuse blows. I have 2 different relays and they both cause the same issue. Do you think I just have 2 bad relays or does anyone know if there may be another issue/short somewhere else? Thanks in advance

I have been having some issues with wiring, FI ALLY figured out where the short was and fixed it. However when I try to start my bike nothing happens not even a click on the starter relay. The fuse and diode are all brand new. If I short out the starter relat it tries to turn over. My first question is I am not sure if I have the wires hooked properly on the relay can anyone show me a pic or how to attach the wires properly? I have an 89 so my relay is without the fuse it just has 2 screw studs and 2 tabs for the wires to plug in to. Thanks for any help

Hey everyone one, so yesterday I had new rubber installed and when I was putting everything back together I must've left a front caliper bolt finger tight.
So this morning on my way into work it decided to leap off of my bike!
I need to get a replacement to safely get home tonight, and luckily there's a fastenal down the street from my work.
Does anyone know what size of bolt I need for a replacement?
I've scoured the forums all morning to no avail. What I have found that it's a 14mm hex head, with 8mm threads, and a 1mm pitch, but I can not find the bolt length anywhere.
Can anyone confirm or correct the info I have?
Thank you so much

Hey everyone,
Does anybody know the size of the front caliper bolts? I lost one on my way to work, and need a replacement to get me home. I'm going to order a set of oem ones off ebay, but that doesn't help me get home tonight lol.
Any help is appreciated
Thank you

Hey all! I am Ren and I'm new here, new to motorcycles, and new to putting them back together. Last week I picked up a used 2004 gs with 9,000 miles for under $1000. Great deal! Only catch was I had to put her back together as the previous owner wanted to do a cafe racer mod, but bought a Ducati instead. Long story short, I'm good for everything except the wiring harness. I'm having difficulty figuring out how everything is supposed to fit in the bikes tiny frame. I do have a manual and I've been following along faithfully, but wiring is all new to me. I honestly think a decent resolution photo or two would help me dramatically. Thanks for taking time to read this!

So i've noticed on my 1992 GS that when i speed up hard it feels like it won't get enough fuel, If im pressing the throttle all the way down it 'suffocates', but gently moving the throttle it acts normally, but ofcourse.. more slower accleration, and this happens mostly on 3-6k rpm, over that it runs fine, except for longer distances full throttle, it again, feels like it runs out of fuel, last owner said, since i have had it less than a week that he cleaned carbs and the gastank, rejetted and switched sparkplugs & ignition coil, voltage regulator and new airfilter. New fuellines are on they way, but doubt that they're the problem.. any ideas?

I seem to be leaking oil from my tach cable. I can't seem to find the seal number that I would need to replace it. Anyone here know what seal/ part number I would need?
Thanks

I had to replace my motor. I have tried to adjust both clutch adjustments all the way in and out. Replaced the clutch plates with the ones from my old motor and verified the oil level. With the lever completely out in first the engine does not die, and the rear wheel barely spins when given any throttle. Though? I've checked everything I can think of at this point. Thanks😁

I've had the thing for over a year now and still haven't had time to get it running. Need the garage space back, buying a new bike soon. I have everything and some doubles of things. New old stock Vance & Hines full Supersport exhaust. New progressive suspension springs. Engine is intact, turns over freely. Transmission works, clutch works. Battery is new(er) motobatt mb10u. I have 3 wiring harnesses, 2 are unmolested. Odometer reads 15,912.9 it works and so does the speedometer. The brake switch works, calipers aren't seized. Paint is pretty much shot on the bike. I will be repainting the tank the same color as the valve cover next week. Have all new athena gaskets for the engine as well. Stock mirrors and bar end mirrors. Starter motor, starter relays I have one from Rick's. I have one cdi box. Throttle cable is good condition, no wear. Clutch cable is good, no wear. Throttle tube and stock grips in great condition. Both left and right hand controls work and function as they should. Seat, oem lock set with one key (I could get a spare made if you like) I don't have a horn. So basically everything is available and able to be shipped on your dime as well unless you'd like to meet up somewhere in the tri state region of Pennsylvania. Some of the pictures are out of date and might have dust on them but they will clean up. If you're interested, the part will be cleaned before it is shipped out or picked up.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180903/40d19acb09e6bef5fea6c86e6e59c7e5.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180903/9695164a74443c540355ac90e7dc50d7.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180903/8c604f0a58c4352bea854ab4904e907e.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180903/7055f2db908406569cb7a2e773b705bf.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180903/b16608d7d42864aa5ae7451c12326c5e.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180903/84f68b0e459d1c8234470d3775087ebd.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180903/e90a41b5dfb67d582eea760d72dc7499.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180903/409100ccc39ff3faef9549db5c72299b.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180903/5abf9c7a9b925a1629050d9c97e07681.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180903/1c4dd99e94438a60a58829179977d1b8.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180903/7c489aba3731349e14197b8d5f417ae1.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180903/806bbd3bec10f48489aaf227f7dfeb89.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180903/587ea6439df686427eef361c95c1161a.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180903/5ae9c25fd33227c57beaa0bf82e3efb7.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180903/14838276f8173e4d12dc6408af24013f.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180903/fad50edc4ab8430fe8d00d03bb531052.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180903/91153fe08aec6f85419fdb34e9b4f152.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180903/76412ae5ca70c59845f9243a90704a00.jpg)

Hi does anyone know if the speedo drive and cable are different on the GS500 and GS500f?
I've bought an aftermarket guage input cable that is said to fit a gs500f. I've tried it on my gs500 and it won't fit.

For those who ride with a top case as well as a passenger, how does your passenger hold on to you/your bike without putting pressure on your wrist? I am wondering what kind of hand holds we can attach to the bike.
Thanks

So the unthinkable happened last night. On my way home last while in heavy stop and go traffic my bike started to bog down. The only way I made it to my destination was on full choke. The return trip was a nightmare. I could not accelerate at all, I could only make my way slowly via full choke and by letting the bike and gearing keep me at speed. However, that didn't last long. My bike instead of screaming at 5+k on full choke, it barely stayed alive. It finally sputtering to death.
Any ideas as to where I can start?
I have new plugs, good 94 octane fuel. Carbs were pulled and cleaned in the beginning of the season. I find the bike bogging on acceleration when it is cold but it comes to life after a few rounds around the block.

Can anyone help and tell me where the fuses are? I've lost all power and need to start with obvious!

Went to start my gs yesterday, turned the key and no lights! Battery is less than 12 months old and always connected to an optimate. What can I look at? Where are the fuses? I have little bike skills but happy to have a go!

Greetings, all! I have returned from my long absence with more knowledge and wisdom earned. I still occasionally search for GS500E's, but I rarely find one when I have the money. Maybe one day in the future I'll find one to add to the stable again.
