Title: Convert to one manual petcock
Post by: Cincykz on April 10, 2019, 06:28:41 PM
I'm positive that this has been hashed out in the past, but I can't tell if people have simplified from two petcocks to one.

I'm having problems with BOTH petcocks (neglected bike) and I'm at wits end. Can I run a manual petcock on the tank and no frame petcock?

Thanks in advance, really want to get it on the road, but it's been one thing after another.

I replaced the tank valve on mine, I think it was about $25 or $30.  Then fixed a coin in the slot with JB Weld to bypass the need for a screwdriver.  The frame petcock just needed the screws on the back tightened.  So that one was free.

If you're on a budget there are used parts and some rebuild kits on ebay.

I don't know if anyone's done the mod you're talking about, surely someone somewhere has.  The obvious problem would be the three inch tall frame rail in the way.

I am in the same process now. Just bought 2 floating fuelcock, one for normal and one for reserve.
Not happy with it, so ordered one from a GSX 600 from Alie....

Hope that one fits, otherwise I was thinking of just loose the regular one and fit a floating fuelcock to the reserve and ride on the teller.

Let me know with what you did.

Just wanted to follow up:
I disassembled and cleaned the petcocks as far as possible

I had issues with the fuel hose barbs pulling out of both, which stemmed from using auto parts store hoses. The gs fuel lines are different sizes on each end, and they have a fairly small od for their id.   I refixed the press fit barbs with fuel gasket maker, and used oem hoses.

PSA - if you are replacing fuel hoses on a gs, spend the $25 and buy the oem hoses, they are very high quality and molded specifically for the application, so replacing them with store hoses is not as easy a proposition as you would think.

+10000000000000000 for OEM lines, I totally agree.

I put in a petcock from a  GSX 600  and it suits nicely. only thin you have to do is adjust the ( don t know how it's called... ;) ) thing where you can change the stand.
