Hi Everyone,
I just got my first bike, a red '92 with 6k miles on it. No doubt I'm going to be checking out this board a lot! First question, I bet others have asked it but I haven't searched yet...I've got the white wheels. They're fugly. I'd like to change the appearance in the cheapest way possible to a metal color or black. Has anyone swapped theirs out, if so, what should I expect to pay...or is it more cost effective to have them repainted? I'd be glad to hear about it. Thanks! Zeke
Welcome to GStwin!
As far as the rims go, well, I know you could strip the paint, but I don't know what with. Do a search using the blue [Search] option above.
welcome from a fellow DCmetro gs rider! --- and nice push stars reference!
the first major mod i did to my gs was painting the rims as well... man, i hated those white rims! following the advice of peeps on this board i decided on a nice metallic grey. i bought 2 cans of primer, 2 cans of duracolor import car spray paint and 2 cans of clearcoat. just pull the rims, tape off all the parts you don't want painted, clean 'em up good and shoot. took about 2-3 days of working up the coats to be done, but i'm super happy with it now

good luck! drop me a message sometime if you want to do a GS ride :thumb:
Another option is to "polish" your rims. Check out the pictures in the thread
Polished my rims at last! (http://www.gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2192).
Thanks for such quick info everyone...sheesh, I think it's a lock that I'm going the strip n polish rout. That looks awesome! Now to learn how to remove the wheels...maybe it'd be a good idea if I get a feel for the bike first before dolling it up, seeing as how it's my third time riding since completing the safety course
hey, if you wanna ride sometime, i'm a fairly new rider too and in Laurel MD. let me know.... "lt fury" on IM.

I used Rust-Oleum Hard Hat Silver spray paint in a rattle can and the wheels turn out great. I can get pics of them if you want.
If you are going to strip the wheels, use aircraft stripper found at most auto parts stores.
