Title: Idles for 5 seconds then dies- 2007 GS500F
Post by: aerbourne on June 14, 2019, 03:35:03 PM
My bike has been sitting for about a year partially due to needing a new frame petcock among other reasons. I ordered a rebuild kit on ebay, replaced it, and I'm having trouble getting it started. Regardless of the petcock setting, it will start up, idle for several seconds, then cut out. This is on full choke. It won't start off choke. Giving any throttle immediately kills it. I cleaned the carbs when I first got it roughly 3 years ago. Think I might need to do it again? What does it sound like to you guys?

If it's been sitting around for a year unused there's a good chance you have a blocked jet or two due to stale old fuel.
It probably just needs fresh fuel and a good run.

Did you toss its fuel and start over? Sounds like mine when it had bad gas after sitting, and it might not cure everything, but it will be much closer if you completely refresh the fuel.  :thumb:
