Or am I alone here?
I'm from Evansville Indiana. In what part of Illinois are you located?
I'm ORIGINALLY from Peoria area...though I've been transplanted to Cali via Uncle Sam...

Effingham, right smack in the middle of the state, maybe a little south. i know where evansville is. if you were to come to effingham, just head north till you reach I-70, then head west. Effingham is where I-70 and I-57 meet. or you can get on I-4, i think, and head west till you get to the US Route 45 exit, then zigzag north to effingham, but i think that way takes longer.
Peoria, eh... Never been there, but I think I know where it is.
Hey, Kasper, did you go to the Indy Motorcycle Expo?
used to live in west chicago, peoria, glen ellyn, batavia :dunno:
Between Champaign and Danville. Or for others right off of I-74 about 20 miles west of the Indiana border
not incredibly far from me, then. probably the closest i've seen.
I'm originally from Peoria, too.
Laura
where do all you people go?
This post is a little old but thought i would give it a shot anyways. I live in east Dubuque IL. Its the little town that connects iowa, illinois and wisconsin :)
I'm way the hell at the opposite end, near Carbondale.
I live in the western burbs
I'm from Bedford, IN which in the southern part of the state
I'm in IL, barely.
I'm right on the IA/IL border in Moline, IL.
Thinking of selling because I never have anyone to ride with, so if you're at all in the area, drop me a line.
:thumb:
Im not to far from moline. HMMM....
Thats not helpful!!
How far is 'not far'?
AIM id is jhummel72
or you can email me at shadith@gmail.com
maybe we could chat about getting a ride in yet this fall.
Edub, I bet there are some good roads around Dubuque. That is a nice area.
Laura
Did you say anyone FROM Illinois? I grew up in Rockford. Does that count? I'm in Oklahoma now, but you won't let a little thing like, say, Missouri come between us will you?
Good luck finding riding buddies, if that's what you're after. --Mike D.
Effingham huh? That's about 30 miles from me. I'm just south of Vandalia, IL.
Wow, some old thread never die. Any good riding days left in lower Illinois? Are you guys the hardy types who ride as long as there's no ice on the ground? I've done lower 30's (F( once or twice, and if you're willing to ride with lots of choke it works soon enough. Probably not healthy all around. --Mike D.
grew up in north side of chicago...went to college in carbondale, ill. Lived in St. Louis for a few years now im live in san jose, ca :thumb:
I'm from Springfield.
I'm not too far from some of you all, I live in Wheaton, work in Geneva.
I'm from Wheaton, work in Geneva.
I live in Hardin County, IL...ever heard of Cave-in-Rock...thats the county i'm in...can be in Carbondale in about 1hour 20-30 mins. Don't have a bike yet, but i'm workin' on gettin' my first gs.
Im from sycamore, however i work in the city. You know that big one (Chicago).
partyguy, your from sycamore? I go to NIU.
Yeah, I live here Until October 1st then im movin to St charles, I'll be around monday on labor day weekend if you want to ride?
sounds good ill pm you later in the week
I'm from chicago area

same here, except i was in CLNC and moved on to Raleigh,NC and now reside in Cary.
(I know this is a long dead thread, but observe my powers of resurrection!)
I'm from Oak Park, a suburb bordering the west side of Chicago.
welll if things work out right i should be up there in the next year and some months . thats if me in the gf are doing good and my college gose the way i want it to . ill be spending a year up that way (i'm a southerner (texas) ) and yeaa so that white stuff that comes down is gonna have to go away for that year. i have riden my bike every day so far since i got it in nov. there has been 2 days that i have not rode it because of ice ......
Haha I don't know if you'll be able to avoid snow in Illinois, we do tend to get a good amount of it.
I live in Broadview. Close west burbs of Chicago. Actually a town or two over from Unnamed.
right in northside chicago. i am a noob though

Noobs gotta learn some time. Anyone think a IL meet sometime in the next month or two is in order? BBQ perhaps?
I'd be down for it, assuming I can find a used GS around here. I can't find any on Ebay and Craigslist is permanently down for my computer for some reason.
gotta keep looking on craigslist... try deleting cookies and what not..
hey CRXDrew,
bbq sounds great. wanna do it by the lakefront ?
hmm... only problem.. if we ride real far from any of our homes to get to the lake.... we're gonna have a problem bringing food and grill etc. Perhaps I can get my gf to follow with a car. Lake sounds good though.
I just picked a bike up on ebay so I might be able to join you guys after all. Its gonna be a month until I get my license though, so I've still got a bit of a wait.

Ditto. Except Im out now and hail from Chicago via Cary,NC
is most of us from the city or the burb?
Seems like most people are in the close suburbs.
I'm home now for the summer.
Unnamed, PM me sometime maybe we can meet up and grab a bite to eat. There are all kinda of good eats in OakPark as far as I know, I was jsut at the Flat Top Grill the other day.
Flat top is delicious. I'm up for hanging out whenever, but I'd rather wait until I've got my M cert so I can ride there. That will be happening exactly one month from now, except since I'm picking up the bike this saturday I'll be teaching myself the basics before I take the class.
I am moving back to Glen Ellyn, IL in 2 weeks. I have been in portland oregon for a year now.
someone organize an outing :) camping/eating/riding whatever
I'll be in. I'm in Dixon. Its about 75 miles straight west of Chicago.
What if we arranged to ride somewhere and have a barbeque? Are there any nice places to do that maybe an hour or so south of Chicago? That way most of us could ride down there together as well. Maybe we could find a little town with a park and barbeques located near a nice twisty road too.
i would prefer not to have to step up and plan something... but yea... lets do something soon. I'll be gone alot middle/late july.
I'll plan something in the future, but I'm not getting my license until July 21. Maybe early August?
Sounds good to me
Very early august would work best for me. I"m an ohioan, but go to school in Champaign. I'd be up for a meet, maybe we can pool together some tools and do some tinkering. I'd be willing to help organize it if needed.
ed
I'm in Chicagoland now so if anyone wants to go and have a quick ride or whatever I'm always looking for a reason.
Just PM me and i'll get you my number.
Dammit 2 week until I get my license.. but after that, I'll be down for whatever.
august 6th works for u guys? we'll have more than 2 weeks to notify people n getting the location. any good spot to hang out?
August 6 sounds awesome. I'm not sure of a good spot, I was thinking of finding a western or southern suburb a little ways from the city were we'd have more space and less traffic. I'm not really sure of any that fit the bill. If we found a public park in a place like that we could make some burgers and tinker with bikes or something like that.
ya definitely not in the city :) i'll go into the burb or wherever most convenient for everyone. anyone knows a good park?
I'll start sending PMs to anyone I can find tomorrow, there was an article in the Trib today that asked a bunch of riders (Harleys for the most part, but not everyone is perfect) what their favorite roads were. I've been looking a bit, if we can find one that parallels a river we'd be well off.
On second thought, lets just make this a meeting and drop the part about trying to find a good road. It seems like all of us are too new to know of any around here, and it adds an extra kink. Lets try to find a small forest preserve with a barbeque and meet up there for a couple hours or so, and get to know each other. How does that sound?
I'm in Chicago. Not gonna have my bike back from the shop for a coupla weeks, but please keep me in the loop if you can... I'd like to join in when I get back in the saddle.
Could give Busse Woods in Shaumburg a shot? Its easy to access. But... may be a bit hard if ur not comfortable with highway riding.
Busse woods would work well. I don't exactly remember them but I recall the name, which is a good thing. I think it would probably work out well.
My bad news is that it seems my parents have scheduled a vacation for that weekend, which ties up the rest of my weekends for the fall. If anyone is done working before that maybe we could have another, smaller meeting during the week? Sorry I just found out about that, I was getting pretty excited.
Interesting. I attend this honda civic forum and last year, i went to BUsse woods for a civic meet. We bbq'd and just hung out for a bit :)

Was it a Honda-Tech meet? I am usually in attendance for those... actually I usually organize them and bring the grill. BTW Ed I'll be down @ UofI this weekend.
Unnamed,
PM me for a lil weekday cruise.
fall would be great too :) i dont have school anymore so i m good lol. if anyone is in the city let me know :) northsider here
So would anyone be up for a ride late next week, maybe thursday or friday? Or even just meeting up somewhere for lunch? It'll probably be easier to organize things later if we know each other a bit. Drew I'll send you a PM after I get my license... should be about tuesday.
Yeah, I'm down p.m. me.

Nah, I mostly frequent 7thgencivic.com, I haven't really done much at all to the car, i just hang out on the forums :)
sweet, i m in :) hopefully my title gets here on time *sigh long story. anyway, lets do it :)
Sorry my last message was kinda vague, I was in Arizona for the weekend and just got home Monday night. If people are up, how about a meeting for lunch somewhere on thursday or friday? I'll send PMs tomorrow and include my phone number, anyone got a favorite place to eat?
friday sounds good to me :) uhh depends on what you feel like eating lol.
Depends on time, I'd be up for trying to grill at Busse but if other people have less time we could meet somewhere in the suburbs. Maybe somewhere near Oak Park, I know Drew is nearby and its not too far from the North Side, maybe 45 from Evanston? Or, if you've got other ideas, I'd be down for going a little farther.
...And I'm f%$king things up again. Turns out I'm leaving for vacation early on friday, so I can't make that. I'm gone for a week, then that weekend is my Ridercourse. Starting August 13 I'm gonna be available again, would anyone be up for a lunch that week?
On the upside, I went to the DMV today and passed my written and skills test, so I've finally got my license!
someone just PM me or call me this weekend for some riding
708.288.4043
Call me for some riding/car cruising/general non-homosexual good time.
Well f%$k me, I went and wrecked my bike. I'd be up for a meeting this week, but I'm definitely not riding there. If anyone wants to meet up for lunch somewhere thats cool.
how'd u wreck your bike?
I posted about it... the title is 40 MPH Lowside... which is basically it. I was going around a blind corner, it tightened up on me, and I hit a patch of gravel. Trashed the front end... sucks. Hopefully it'll be up and running soon. Since I'm at school I won't be able to get together for a meeting until next summer, but I'm gonna try to start planning something then.
I GOT MY TITLE TODAY whoohooo gonna register this biatch on thursday and start riding legally :)
Congrats! Hopefully we can all get together for a ride next summer.
So who else has been enjoying this tremendous weather? I don't even have warm gloves but that hasn't kept me from riding around all the time. Riding on Christmas eve, in Chicago? Its absurd!
decided to bump this thread. any you guys wanna have a northern illinois ride day or something?
I've been waiting for someone else to write something since I have like all of the last posts. I'm still at school in New York now, but I wish I could connect and go on one.
yay winter is over :) and more people are posting here.
While buying from New Enough today I found a link that looked interesting on their donation page
http://www.chicagolandsportbikes.com/
Has anyone been here? I just registered, it seems to be relatively light on squids, it would be awesome to have a GS500 presence on the board.
Hey hey hey, I'm SmartDrug on CLSB, great board and a lot of decent people, I've bought 3 bikes from people on the board, Welcome! There are a lot of people, myself included, who will gladly help you get started riding.
Ah, I saw your post in my introduction thread! Thanks for the welcome, it's nice to be loved :kiss3:
Anyway I seem to be in typical shape, 12 hours after registering I was arguing with mods who called me a spammer for posting a link to bikerfriend.org and circumventing the anti-spam filter to do it.
I saw that, shitty way to start out and I'm sorry that happened. We've gotten a lot of members just there to post ads lately and they began to restrict stuff. The group is really solid though, not very squidly, 95% are smart about gear and are competant riders. They'll all go out of their way to help a new member, if you get the chance hit up a NESBA track day with some of the guys, you'll learn a huge amount about what the bike is capable, much more than street riding.
ouh seems like a cool site. thanks for the link...i'll check it out more often
Hey all, I'm from Terre Haute, IN which is about two and a half hours south of you guys. I feel like I'm a salesman trying to pitch this ride, but lets get some more midwest people to the Gap this June. Check out the deals gap thread here:
http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=33614.0
wow this thread is so dead....so what's new guys? it's so warm today...wanted to take my bike out for a ride, but got lazy ahhah !!!
Just so this thread doesn't get buried in a year's worth of newer posts, I thought I'd introduce myself. I live in Chicagoland (Naperville, actually) and don't have a bike yet but will be in the market in a month or so. As a matter of fact, I plan to go up to Road Track and Trail (in Wisconsin) and look at a yellow GS500f they just got in. The price is really good (for a dealership) and I've heard good things. Anyone have any experience with them?
Either way, just wanted to see who is from Chicagoland so I'll have some folks to ride with when the time comes.
Mark
no, never heard of them. year/miles/price?
anyway, good to see someone posting in this thread :)

heh when i lived in glen ellyn i used ot go to church here http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&rlz=1I7ADBF&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=trinity+church+of+the+nazarene&near=Naperville,+IL&fb=1&cid=0,0,15020018032475913107&sa=X&oi=local_result&resnum=1&ct=image i miss the area
Well, I pulled the trigger and got the yellow GS from Road Track and Trail. The guys there are really cool in spite of us having kept them there for over an hour after the store closed. They just got it in so they hadn't had a chance to fully inspect it but it should be done by the weekend. If anyone is looking to ride after that just let me know. I could have gotten the bike for less from a private seller but thankfully I don't feel taken advantage of.
Yamahonkawazuki, you may miss the area but I would trade this place in a heartbeat for Tennessee. Don't be sad, man; you can ride a lot longer than we can here.
post some pix of your bike :) i wanna see
i was borned there does that count? woodstock baby. mchenry county

What's up fellas? I'll be moving up to Elgin in a couple weeks. I hope to have my bike back to health by then :dunno_white: otherwise I may be recruiting...
I don't like to have to fill my car up more than once during the summer :)
What's all this business about Illinois? Elign isn't Illinois, it's freaking CHICAGO an entirely different state! :icon_razz:
Get out of this thread so the lone downstate Illinoisian can sulk alone.
I'm not in Cook Co. AND I'll be surrounded by corn fields, in my book, that's enough to disqualify it from being considered Chicago. The defense rests...hahaha
JT
Corn fields you say? Out every window with no other houses in sight? OK, maybe we'll let you in...
Welcome JT. I live in Naperville (which is a good ways from Elgin IMO) but let me know when you get back. I've been looking for fellow GS riders in the area.
I'm Here in Bolingbrook, IL....anyone... O0
Welcome aboard. We had the Chicagoland thread going for a while but for some reason it fell off. Glad to see someone revive an area post so hopefully others will chime in. I've seen quite a few GSF's in my area (Naperville) but unfortunately all but one of them was going the opposite direction. The one going in my direction (a blue 06 I believe) was stopped in traffic and I passed him making a right turn onto Ogden.
Hey, is anyone interested in a Chicagoland GS500 ride? I'm moving out of state at the end of the summer but would love to get together with some fellow GS'ers. Maybe make a run down to Starved Rock or somewhere?
BTT, anyone looking for a solid local group of smart, safe riders to ride with, check out
www.chicagolandsportbikes.com
Still the lone downstater.
All alone....
I think I'll go crawl under a rock and cut myself.
Hey guys, I live in Wheaton and work in Wood Dale. I can't wait for some nice weather to get out there. I'm actually perusing craigslist and the local dealers looking for something bigger (I really want a new CBR1000) but I'll probably keep the GS as well. I found a new place that is just starting to get together to ride locally. Check it out.

I'm the the recent joiner for the gs.twin site asking for advice on the 04 GS500F purchase. I live in Elgin, Illinois. I wrote in before asking if any one from the club is going to Cycleworld international show. I plan on being there Sunday the 8th. And again, I thank all of you for the replies and advice.
Sorry, no plans yet to go to the show. Where is it?
What advice are you looking for?
BTT
Getting warmer finally...
Who's ready to get together and ride? :technical:
BTT
Howdy again all. I was last active here two years ago, around the time that I bought my GS. A couple of weeks ago I purchased a used SV650S, but I'd still be interested in a group ride. The GS is no longer insured, but I'd be willing to sport my GStwin t-shirt to fit in :).
