so i got my bike fired up finally. of course, the revs just start shooting way up. got up to about 3000rpm. i tried turning the idle adjust screw, but i don't know which way to turn it to slow the idle. i shut the engine down before it got too hot for me to get my hand in there. which way is which?
oh, and i say again, god bless this board. i would be up shaZam! creek without the help i've been getting here. thanks everyone.

to lower the rpm you have to turn the screw just like you would turn to loosen a screw....so that would be counter clockwise

And
that would be looking up at the screw from below. Since the screw is "upside down", it will loosen (decrease revs) in the clockwise direction
as seen from above.
But GRU is right - it works just like a jar lid as far as your hand motion is concerned.
