Title: Seat for GS500
Post by: Perpignac on September 14, 2019, 08:47:52 PM
Hi guys,

Are there any differences in seat mounts between GS500, GS500E and GS500F?

Thanks

Neither of those will go on a GS without heavy modification.

Welcome to the forum!

I've been around here for several years now (and also on the facebook group)... but I can't recall ever seeing an actual GS500 specific seat in that style. Corbin makes seats for our bikes but I am not sure if you could get one in that style.

Most people I've seen that want a seat like that end up removing the rear side plastics, cutting the frame and welding in bits to make it all work right.

To answer your question about the differences between the GS500, E, and F... there are differences yes. I'm not sure I could name them all lol! But (I'm talking 1989+) the GS500 and the GS500E are the naked bikes. The GS500F is the one with the full fairings.

This section of the wiki will tell you more about what differences there are:

The seat changed in 2001. If you have a GS500F you need a 2001 - 2009 compatible seat.

There are lots of options for the GS500E (See whaccessories.com, Corbin, OEM gel seat). For the GS500F, the only option I have found it the french company "Top Sellerie." Its much nicer and more comfortable than the stock seat but they may not be retro enough for you. They might have the crosshatch stitching at least.

That type of seat won't work with a GS500. Get a UJM instead. Swap your GS500 for a GS450 and be happy.

If you want that "brat" style, start with a UJM-type chassis. The GS is not a good candidate at all for that.

IMHO...
