Title: Uneven wear on disc?
Post by: Pat108 on October 20, 2019, 07:12:45 AM
Hey guys! I'm new to this forum and new to the gs500 world. Just got mine 1 month ago and have been loving the ride.

I'm sorry if this has been discussed, I took my bike to the shop and asked the guy about an uneven wear on my rear disc but he said it was fine.

What do you guys think of this?

Whats the pad look like and the otherside of the disc?

Sorry for the delay, pads look like they have life in them. The other side off the disc shares the same wear pattern, it just looks contrary, so the shiny part appears on the outer part of the disc instead of the inner part. Bike brakes good, I'm wondering if changing the pads would solve it, even if the mechanic said it was fine. Any ideas?

So the pads are the same all the way across? Full width of the disk? If they've got life in them I'd scuff the surface of the pads up with some sandpaper.... even rubbing them against some concrete would do and see how it goes.

The contact is on the "inside" on one side and the "outside" of the other?

That makes it seem like the caliper isn't sitting evenly over the rotor, that it's squeezing on an angle.

Was the bike ever crashed/dropped?

This seems like a rear wheel alignment issue, if you like to accelerate and the wheel nuts aren't quite to spec this can happen without a drop or crash. If you just hit the rear break does the bike crab a little?

PS, its been dropped at low speed at least, the muffler tells that story
