Title: Jetting and stumble
Post by: jangofett on March 06, 2004, 01:59:32 PM
Yeah, I know this has been discussed a million times but I am fixing to order jets and a aftermarket k&n filter for my GS. I have a annoying stumble in my bike whenever I try to kick down from say 45mph and take the bike upstairs a little. It misses out between about 6000 rpm and then catches at about 8500 and then she goes. If I start from a dead stop and get into her, she crosses that point fine and if she hesitates, it is very little. My carbs are stock except for a couple shims on the carb needles that the previous owner put on. Keep in mind, I have a Cobra slip on but no aftemarket exhaust system. If anyone can tell me everything I will need, and maybe what is going on with my bike having that rough spot, I will appreciate it greatly. Thanks! :thumb:

After going back and reading old posts, I think I have this straight. With my cobra slip on I will go with 40 non-bleeder type mains part# 09492-40014 suzuki part. I plan to go with a K&N replacement filter in the stock box because I am not sure if I can use the pods without a full aftermarket exhaust and I do not want to go all that way. The mains I need are 127.5 or with the cobra slip-on should I go bigger? Say 150's? Not sure of the part number on that one but from what I gather, it is easier to find at the dealer than say the proper pilot and since I have the part# for the pilots, I am ok on that :thumb: . Is there any drilling or modifications or anything out of the ordinary I need to know about? I know I will need to expose the air mixture screws for adjustment. Thank god my brother in law is good at this stuff. I just want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row before beginning. Thanks!

OK 127.5 with K&N in airbox and slip on. And 40 non bleeds and leave 1 washer in there.
Cool.
Srinath.

Excellent! Thanks Srinath. :thumb: I assume all of these things go in the carbs with no problems or drilling or serious modifications required. I wanted to go with k&n pods but I figured they would be too much for the cobra pipe. If I could use K&N pods, let me know! I found the pilots at bike bandit now I need to find the mains. Oh yeah, my bike is a 93 if it makes any difference.

The major restriction in the air pump that is the GS500 is the air intake - PUT ON THE PODS - the exhaust side is not terribly restrictive with any aftermarket slip-on or whole system.  With the pods and a Cobra F1R a bunch of people on this board have ended up at 150 mains, larger pilots (2001- and up its a # 20 bleed type instead of your #40 non-bleed that is needed - different carbs) and a washer or two.  If it is an F1S you are installing it might end up with 145's instead of 150's.

mjm,

Thanks for the info, I am going the pod route. I will probably end up at 150 mains I guess. I can't wait to see how it turns out!

The K&N pods are ordered. 55.80 for the two at usdiesel and free shipping. Now I just need to round up everything else! :thumb:
