I bought a bike with the Vance and Hines exhaust and missing center stand. A few searches on the forum and it seems the missing Vance and Hines Center stand stop bracket probably led to the center stand being removed. I have ordered a center stand and the associated hardware but I was not able to find the V&H stop bracket anywhere. Does anyone have the dimensions? Seems simple enough to make. Or if anyone has a spare bracket they want to part with that would be great.
Thank you
I was literally thinking of asking this same question earlier today. I purchased my Vance and Hines used and it didn't come with the bracket.
The Vance and Hines company that produced these exhausts isn't the same company that exists today so it doesn't seem they can provide the part. I've also never seen one show up on ebay.
If someone has the part and can take detailed photos, we would be very appreciative.
txxt500, if you come up with an alternative solution please let me know!
Sorry for the double post but I found what we need.
I was able to find some helpful and high quality photos in adidasguy's photobucket account (RIP Patrick :dunno_white:)
Looking at these now, I finally understand how simple this bracket is. You just need a piece of metal coming straight back from the center stand mounting point with a right angle bend at the end to hit the center stand leg. It doesn't need to look as complicated as what V&H produced. They probably just wanted it to look substantial. You could make a bracket with similar function with just a straight piece that has one 90 degree bend at the end and with one hole for the center stand mounting bolt on the other end (tools required would be a cordless drill and a hammer). Mount it so it sticks straight back and the center stand should hit it before the chain.
I don't know why I thought it was more complicated.

It looks like the bracket is resting against the frame to prevent it from rotating on the single bolt.
You are right. So maybe starting with an "L" shaped piece of metal would be the way to go.
Far easier to tie a big chunk of car tire around the center stand cross brace or even the shock linkage.
Its a given that we have all slapped various flanges (guilt by creation cos I made a few 100 of those things) and no brackets were used. My suggestion was to slap a chunk of car tire or other similar material onto the shock linkage or the center stand cross brace.
Or, leave the center stand off, its rarely ever used anyway and 1/2 the bikes never come with one nor have a way to fit one.
Cool.
Buddha.
This bracket seems pretty simple really but I'll consider the cross brace option.
I'm about to start commuting on my GS again, so the maintenance tasks will be happening frequently and I dont want to be looking for the center stand ir jack stands every time i want to take a wheel off.
Bracket needs a grommet as well, or one of those rubber stopper things.
Cool.
Buddha.
What do you mean by grommet?
The V&H bracket appears to be steel with no rubber and apparently works ok. Or do you think the center stand would rattle against it?
I think it has a hole for you to use the rubber stopper from the stock header pipe in it.
I definitely would put some rubber in the contact area, not leave it as metal.
Cool.

Thanks for all the pics and info. My center stand and hardware will be here early next week. I will post what I I end up using as a stopper.

I have several of the OE stoppers that were taken off of project bikes. Send me a PM if you want one and I'll send one your way.
