Title: Choke cables
Post by: max on April 19, 2020, 01:13:30 PM
Does anyone know if the early-00 vs 01+ choke cables are interchangeable?

I'm planning to renew a couple of the control cables with Slinky Glide cables (cheap and had decent experiences with them in the past).

However, they don't have a choke cable variant for my 06, only for the 00 model and earlier.

Checking the parts fische, the part numbers for the 00 vs 06 are different, but only look different at the handlebar end rather than carb end.

I believe so. I only had to mod throttle side if I recall.
Cool.

My 89 choke cable goes to clutch side with its own thumb actuated rotate lever.

It swings about 1/12th of a turn and back, that is all. Is that normal? I can watch the cold start air circuit bar on the front of the carbs run all the way left and right.

1/12th ??? and you sure the choke goes from full closed to full open ? It may be worth for someone to degree that bugger - maybe its only 1/12th of the turn.
1/12th turn throttle would sure be hard to ride LOL.

the sliding brass looking cross bar in front of the carbs goes from full open to hitting the stop with what feels like 1/4 of normal choke lever pull.

Will re-examine tomorrow.

Fitted the new cable today. The only discernible difference between the pre-00 and 01+ choke cables seems to be that the pre-00 angle fitting at the carb end is obtuse rather than 90deg.

The angle makes it less ideal (slightly clashes with the large dia 2nd air system hose), but still works perfectly.

Oh you may have the lever at the handlebar not seated in the groove - it may be on the outside of that groove - larger turning radius = much shorter turn angle before the same pull is reached.
And Max - that shiny clean one is what the 89-00 cable is like. The tight 90 degree is the 01+ one ? Weird. Again suzuki fixes what's not broken.

Cool.

Correct, shiny clean is the pre-00 aftermarket one that I bought, tight 90deg is 01+ which came off my bike (assumed original 06 cable).

They must have had an 'oh no it clashes' moment when they introduced the 2nd air system.
