Title: Rebuilding a GS500E in the hot summer of Portugal
Post by: filipedbc on May 24, 2020, 04:31:17 AM
Greetings from Portugal,
last february bought a GS500E that was stopped for more than a year, and on the first week I made 300km+ and make it back home! This trip was not just roses, I had to stop two times in the middle of the highway :D

Here is a picture of my Slingshot girl:

I've been reading and learning too much with this community. Now, I've started my own project, and I'm tearing it appart. Needed to replace the gears and transmissions, because the shafts theets were worn out.
This is the current status of the engine:

Now, I'm preparing the engine to paint it with VHT paint (bought 100€+ on these paints) and I need help:
I bought the VHT SP148 (primer), SP130 (coat) and SP145 (clear - for protection), and I have some doubts on applying the SP145 Gloss Clear coat. I also wanna polish the engines fins and I'm uncertain in how to proceed.
First, I was thinking In applying 3x primer (light, light, med coat), 2x black coat (light, full coat), 1hr in oven, 1 week rest, polish fins, 2x gloss clear (light, med coat), 1hr oven and 1week rest.

But should I apply the SP145 gloss clear after polishing the fins or should I apply it after de SP130 coat and only polish the fins after a week of rest?

Also, do you have any other opinion in the quantity and thickness of coats I'm applying? is it good to put the parts in 1hr oven after applying the SP145 coat?

Thank you.

PS: I will add new pictures of the project when I have time
