Title: Broken Odometer/Speedometer
Post by: jackychan121 on June 08, 2020, 03:40:14 PM
Hey yall!
Brand new user here and brand new biker as well. Bought my 07' GS500F yesterday and it has a non-working odometer and speedometer. By lurking  the past few days, I know my first course of action is to check the speedometer cable running down to the front wheel, but the problem I am facing is that the left side fork is in the way of the screw and I have no way to access it. I tried raising the frame up to the front wheel was of the ground and release weight on the suspension but the fork is still in the way of the screw holding the speedometer cable in, any suggestions? Thank y'all very much!

EDIT: here is are pictures to help describe, the first picture is the screw I believe I need to access, and the second shows how it is completely blocked by the fork

Hi, which screw are you referring to?

At the wheel, the speedometer cable is held in by a single philips head screw. However it will bottom out on the speedometer cable guide if you don't remove that first. That's just held in place by the bolt at the outside bottom of the fork leg (w/ an 8mm head).  If you can't readily access those two then something else is going on with your fork or maybe I'm not understanding.
