Title: Luggage rack
Post by: Bod on August 12, 2020, 11:28:29 PM
Hello again. Sorry for all the questions but I've just got my bike and need your advice and expertise. I am looking for a top box and found this

https://www.omniaracing.net/en/givi-mounting-kit-rear-rack-kit-for-givi-kappa-cases-suzuki-gs500e-0107-gs500f-p-17832.html

The only thing is, I have a 1998 gs500e but this is for a 2001. Is there any difference between the years or will it fit no problem? Thanks a lot

Bod

Hi guys. I have just been offered this rack. It's a 97 bike but not sure if this is an official rack mount. Could someone give me some advice on it? Thanks a lot

I don't know anything about the rack in the picture, but to answer your first question:

A rack for a 2001 will not fit on a 1997 without modification. Although the frame is 99% the same, the rear plastics are completely different. You need a rack designed to fit a 1989 - 2000 bike.

The rack in the photo looks decent.

Do you have any details on that second rack?  Make / model?  I don't think I've ever seen it.

Sadly not. I've been looking at quite a few options but I doubt they fit the 1998 model

UPDATE: I have just removed the side panels from the bike and found two mounting arms underneath. Are these nothing to go with a rack mounting, just the standard parts?

Thanks

Bod

Correct, those are standard side rails.  They've got nubs on the bottom for attaching bungee net hooks or whatever to.
