Title: Officially Done! '09 GS500E With a Motor Swap
Post by: Agno on August 29, 2020, 10:07:34 PM
Howdy All,

Happy to say that this slow but steady build is officially done. It will be given as a gift to a deserving friend soon. I will still be on this forum though. Picked up another GS that has been sitting for 4 years or so and plan on chopping the hell out of it. Should be fun. Anyway, here is a list of the mods (what I can remember anyway) to the bike and some pics of the final product.

Basics:
-2009 GS500F with a 1992 GS500 engine.

Mods:
-Fairing removal
-GS500E headlight setup with SV650 guts and an LED headlight from SuperBrightLEDs
-Ebay bar-end mirrors with red end caps
-White gauge overlays and LED internal bulbs
-Gear driven tachometer from '92 GS500
-Sonic straight-rate springs and 15 weight oil in the forks
-Painted the valve cover gloss red when I adjusted the valves
-Red pinstriping around the factory graphics
-Red reflective rim-stripes installed after removing all the factory reflectors
-Jet kit from Buddha
-Smog delete
-K&N Lunchbox
-Vance & Hines full exhaust shortened by 1in. and painted black
-Fenderectomy
-Koso LED flashers and inline resistors
-Center-stand removal (after pics)
-R6 rear shock
-Katana 750 rear wheel
-GSXR 750 rear brake torque arm
-Ebay pegs all-round
-Black Ebay levers with red adjusters
-Chunky aluminum fork brace
-Motor painted satin black while removed
-Fork lowers painted satin black
-Shorai battery
-Fuel-Line quick disconnects with valves
-Frame sliders

Looks very sharp... I like it. Jelly of those sliders! Been wanting some of those for a while now. V&H looks good all in black like that.

Thanks guys. Yeah it does feel good to see what I wanted manifest in front of my eyes. Next project will be a lot less conventional with more of a custom theme. Now that I have stared at the GS platform for a few years, I need to see some ideas made real.

It'll give me a chance to practice some basic welding again and work on getting my painting technique ironed out.
