Title: Broken crankcase bolt
Post by: Tantoespang on September 14, 2020, 10:27:44 AM
Hey, so I'm new to this forum. I'll write up a message in new members soon.
However I have a problem with my gs500.

When I was rewiring my gs I snapped on of the crackcase bolts. Can I still use the bike this way or is it necessary to split the crankcase? I broke bolt 11.

It looks as it's in the transmission section.  I can't say for sure, and I don't know if anyone else has BTDT... Did you search the forum? There is a lot of info in the archives.

Did you break it loosening or tightening?

Did it have wire clip under the bolt head?

If it's oxidized into the case, and you broke the head off when loosening, it's going nowhere and you probably could ride it forever.
