Title: Oh My F****ing God! - bike back together.
Post by: jake42 on March 07, 2004, 06:42:21 PM
Holy shaZam!!
It's freezing here and supposed to snow tonite but  I don't care.

So after weeks and months of collecting all the assorted parts I finally reassembled the whole thing in like two hours today.

What I did:
V&H full exhaust.
K&N pod filter
rejetted the carbs, 150, 40, 2 washers, 3 turns out.
new plugs
Bob Broussard's ignition advancer.

First of all don't do this... put everything back together and forget to turn on the fuel shutoff valve under the tank.  What a pain.

Anyway. Got the bike out, fired it up and had to tinker alot with the idle to get it to 1200.  Jumped on and lit up the street.

Damn this thing is fast now! PULLS strong all the way through the rpm's. no hesitation that i noticed in my several runs up and down the street.  And it's loud.  My neighbor came out because he heard me making all this noise.  I had him jump on it and take it down the street so I could hear it from behind.  It's aswesome.  This guy rides a vulcan 1500 and he came back with a big ass grin on his face.

Needless to say, the 2 inches of snow we're supposed to get tonite isn't putting too much of a damper on my night

Excellent, just what I want to here as I am doing the same thing soon. I have the stock header with the cobra F1R slip on. I plan to run a pod filter and then jet accordingly. What kind of pod are you running? Is it the one from usdiesel? If so, did it go on ok and what is the part number. I guess an ignition advancer from Bob would be a good idea for me as well. Enjoy the bike when it warms up outside. :thumb:

yeah i'm running the ru2970 from usdiesel. 32 bucks and no shipping.

i put the pod on and then slipped the pod and the carbs right into the bike,

no problems.

Do you have a part number on those 150 mains? I know the # for the pilots but not the mains although it may be easy to find at the dealer. Also, what size washers did you use? Thanks!

When I rejetted, I bought the main jets out of a a big tray sorted according to size.  Maybe you can just stop by a local dealer and try to get the 150's like that.  I haven't seen any part numbers on the site for main jets.

jango,

no part numbers for me.  I went to my local guy and said i need 150 mains and 40 pilots for mikuni carbs.  He looked them up in the catalog. I brought my jets with me since i already had the carbs apart and for the pilot we made sure to order the nonbleeder type.

For washers, I used to #4 brass washers that I got at Lowe's for like 69 cents.  The total height of the washers when they were stacked together was just a little under 1 mm.

I may have forgotten to mention that the bike absolutely growls now.  Even at idle it sounds cooler.  When you lay into the throttle the V&H really comes alive. Even the little bit of popping on decel sounds cool.

Sounds good. You will have fun this summer for sure. I found my non-bleeder 40 pilots on bikebandit and I found some main jets on one of the sites listed in one of the past postings. I think specifically they are large round mains. I think the Mikuni # is N100/604-150 for the 150's. I will contact or go to my dealer and see if they have the mains first but I went ahead and ordered the pilots from bikebandit. My pods are on backorder from usdiesel, they e-mailed me today. Bob is going to do a advance on my timing for me as soon as I send it to him. I can't wait to feel the difference this is going to make. Enjoy your performance increase on your bike! :thumb:
