I have a 2009 GS500F and have been trying to find a new gas tank. its proven to be incredibly difficult to find, my question is, are there any other models of Suzuki that used the same or a close enough gas tank to put on the bike that will be easier to get?
IDK about what other tank might fit.
Used GS500F tanks are readily available from motorcycle salvage (bike breakers/strippers) and on eBay.
They typically go $300-$400 for a good one. If you watch eBay and set up a saved search with notification, you might find a better deal. (complete non running motorcycles sell for the same as just the tank)

By chance I might be able to help you out here 'TwistedSpoke' with a suggestion, albeit Geographically awkward
By pure co-incidence I was looking at the likelyhood//possibilty of me aquiring a tank for my 550 Zephyr
This was only about 4-5 days ago, so my memory was fresh.
Alas, my first & only-ever 'browser-crash' (in 12-years), happened last-night & yesterday afternoon
Despite ALL my bookmarks going "tit$-up", I've just trawled Ebay, to see "if" I could find THAT seller !
Now remember, I WAS looking for 550-Zephyr tanks, but figured "The GS had a long production-run"
20-25mins later & "Voila" = I stumble across these 'Non-Original' tanks that I'd originally bookmarked for my Zephyr
Great news is, they advertise that they ARE suitable for YOUR GS500 = the GS.500-F
Brand spanking NEW tanks - No secondhand 'dross' or minefield(s) - Ya can't beat "Brand New"
Alas (& here's the killer), "They're IN GERMANY"
But even WITH TransAtlantic postage (P&P), they should STILL come-out cheaper & better than 'used'
In (my/our) English money, they're coming out at between £72.00 - £95.00 at a time, including postage.
You don't state where you're from, but I'm natually guessing & assuming it's America/USA, yeah ?
Yeah, I "know" the Tank shape ain't original, but they appear superb quality & I'd take a punt on one.....
Back in late 2005 my 1993 GPz900-R's tank "gave up the ghost", despite the bike being in "mint-condition"
Little did I know that the very VERY minor-looking "bubbling" near the decal/cheat-line, were "pinholes"
In very short order my "paper-mache" GPz.900-R tank rotted thru - The worst TANK I've ever owned.
So, I do know that sense of frustration of having a 'great bike' with a (F**king) 'Leaking Tank' !!!!!!
I appreciate Sporty's suggestion.....
.......But cold light of day, it's $300-$400 for a USED tank, which ya know NOTHING about (might be pitted ?)
"If" you can stomach the shipping costs on THESE
German-Tanks (Not Pzkpfw ;)) it COULD work out great ?
Way I see it is...... Even "if" you shell-out for one of these German Fuel-Tanks, even with P&P, it'll STILL be cheaper !
Then, you'll have a brand-new 2020/2021 fuel-tank, ZERO PITTING & therefore zero-hassle//hassle-free
To my mind, they DO look like a "volume manufacturer" of after-market tanks & the quality looks GOOD
I'd be inclined to look over on USA-Ebay - See "if" he's shipping AND doing business there ?
Those U.K prices (including P&P), are £72.00-£95.00, which in USD ($) is approx' $100.00- $125.00 (very reasonable)
Figured I'd "Throw This Into The Mix", as although it's Geographically awkward, it MIGHT be the 'cure'

Unfortunately, those Chinese tanks aren't even remotely close to fitting a GS500...
they are universal tanks for a bike with a single top tube.
'
Well spotted Sporty - "My Bad", but on a HUGE humongous scale   :hithead:
I'd seen the ones for my Zephyr
(again, after browser-issues, described) & then just typed-in "GS500"
So there's me, just looking at the "top-surface" (tank) & seeing the
"For GS500 E/F" header-title !
Having seen your post mate (some hours later), I went back-in to go check/look/see
Had to find the SIXTH picture, clearly showing the "saddle-type" (for), as you rightly say "single top tube"
Might look GREAT on my old GS.1000-E ("if" it fit), but as you say, ISN'T taking into account the cradle-frame !
Baffling then that he (the company), should even list it as "for Suzuki GS 500 F", when clearly, it isn't
What a bummer

It's just false advertising with disclaimers of "may need modification " and "compatibility for reference only".
I've been there because every time I search for a tank for any make of bike,, those things pop up. I believe they are Honda CG125 tanks as listed below, but they are advertised as fitting just about every bike ever made. Some factory in China has the tooling to repop them and must put out many thousands to flood the market.
There as low as $42 with free shipping in the USA. Gas tank, petcock, locking cap and keys. (Including the boat ride from China , and some amount of profit)

Another tank that come up quite a bit, but lesser qtys is a repop of the Benelli Mojave tank. I might use one on a cafe racer build. (Not a GS500)
