I am new on the forum and new in the Suzuki world as well. I am trying to identify a bike that I am potentially buying in the near future. The bike is located in Finland as is being sold as a Suzuki GS500M from 1982. I've been trying to search everywhere for some info about this specific model, but I just can't find anything. It seems like the owner has made a mistake and the bike is actually GS550M, but here's the fun part:
In Finland I can freely search for the registered information about any car or motorbike from a government-run website, that shows current and up-to-date info about vehicles. This also shows the engine size, which is listed as 492cc. The identification number is listed as GS500M-100007, which clearly states that the bike is a GS500M, but apparently GS500 has not been manufactured this early? I also could not find the model listed on http://www.thegsresources.com/. I have also attached an image of the modified bike to the post. Any help in identification will be greatly appreciated!
That looks like a Four cylinder GS550E, (not an M) Perhaps the GS550 was made as a 500cc for sale in certain European markets.
It has little connection with the GS500 twin this site is dedicated to.
I'd look it over carefully, checking frame and engine serial numbers... who knows what was done over almost 40 years.

Based on what I found, it did exist as a 4 cylinder in the late 70's early 80's in just a few markets.
