Well, after a few weeks of looking I found an excellent orange 1998 GS500 with about 7000mi. I will be picking it up friday, then its time to start looking for new tires.
Just curious how many people out there have orange bikes? They don't seem very common, especially since they were only made one year.
congrats!! orange rocks as a color. I think the GS wears the color well. In fact, it was a orange GS I saw at the university I attend that got me interested in the GS. have fun!! :thumb: :)
Did you buy the orange '93 with 7k mi in Kenosha:

? They're talking about you and a bad bid on a Honda Goldwing on this site in the topic called "What's up with all the BS auctions on eBay?" (http://www.gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7346).
Also, that bike looks like it's in great shape. I bought my '92 in M'waukee too (purple), but it had seen a lot more use.
Yup, thats the one. The "buyer" was a deadbeat, so I went and checked it out today and went for a little ride :) Then I bought it. I can't wait to bring her home!
That bike is definitely Orange. If you were Dutch you would be really proud... :thumb:
In any case if you aren't Dutch be proud gosh darnit.
guy named "mark" from costa mesa, newport beach had a orange bike.. it looked sweeet.
Well, i'm picking up the bike tomorrow, I just hope it warms up some for the weekend. I the bank I drove past today said 19F and the wind is blowing like a mofo. Hopefully it will get above 40 like the forcast says it will :P
Orange is the best color. But don't take my word for it. :thumb:

Your orange has some pearl metal look to it... does it have metal flake in it. It looks dancing... the stock orange just slits there.
Cool.
Srinath.
I think orange sucks!! ...oh wait, here I go again....
nevermind.
hey mike,
i happened to click on your homepage and saw your little yamaha.
go to the wall of fame and check out that bike's big brother., the ycs1 180. I rode that bike for a couple years before I got the GS. Oh by the way, it's in the member's bikes section of wall of fame.
congrats on the purchase.

I owned a 1969 Yam 90cc twin -looked very similar. My old man thought it was broken and took it to the dump -they thought it was a moped and let him dump it in the scrap bin :? I miss that POS :(
John,
I dig those old two stroke yamaha's. I know a woman who has two mid 70's rd350's right now. I'm trying to talk her into giving them to me for a song. Here's to the art of persuasion.

I think I've seen your YCS1 before in the WoF Jake... Yup, I just found it and there's the comment I left there :thumb: My Yamaha was sittin' around for 20 or so years in my grandpa's shed; he used to use it to heard cows/just run around the farm. When he found it and gave it to me it wasn't running(go figure after 20+ years). The piston was seized. Working with my dad, we got it loose and replaced the piston and rings, and a few other parts along the way. Never painted it though, I liked the charm of a few scratches in the original paint. Fun little bike to start with, it even got me to classes this fall before it started snowing. Unfortunately I'm probably going to be selling it soon; between my dad and I we have 3.5 bikes in my dad's garage. For some reason I think I will be riding the GS a lot more anyway.
Speaking of the GS, I picked it up, titled it and plan on changing the oil today. I'm going to have to search for some insurance though, my parents carrier seems to think I'm going to kill myself or others with this bike :dunno: Is Progressive any good?
