Title: GS500 '92 one of a kind!
Post by: Nijbal98 on January 03, 2021, 08:18:40 AM
Hi guys,

I took it uppon myself, to start a quarantaine project.
Turning my old GS500 '92 into a new bike!

Walk around -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2UiiX-1aEc

----Edit----

When i first bought my bike, 1 year ago.
everthing was scratched, dented, leaking oil, and had broken exhaust manifold bolts.

First thing i was going to do, was tackle the bolts!
The previous owner, tried to weld the exhaust to the enige.. :hithead:
After that failed, they used exhaust cement.. :hithead: :hithead:
Al 4 bolts were broken off, so yeah that was a pain in the head! :icon_lol:

After i drilled them out, i used helicoil's to clean them up:

i drove the bike for about 2 months, before the big project started.

First i took off the tank, and plastic's.
Then the engine came out..

And the stripping continious.

Ready for powder coating:

While the frame and some parts, are being powdercoated, i can start on the engine!

when i took the valve cover off, i noticed the Journal cap threat was damaged, explaines the oil leaking:

The tacho driver, had broken off in the head, so had to drill that out aswell!

Checked the valves, then started sanding the engine block, for paint.

Changed the intake boots, changed 3 oil seals, spark plugs, gas filters, oil filter, and oil it self.

Painted the wheels, front vork, and some other parts black:

When that was done, the frame came back from the powdercoating company!
Looked like Christmas :icon_razz:

After the frame arrived, i started on the gauges!
they were faded and ugly.

Used PlastX from Meguiars and it did the trick for me:

Painted the needles, and assembled them. :icon_mrgreen:

Got another present from myself, a new tail light!

Lets start putting it together!

After sanding, and cleaning, the tank and the plastic's, they are off to paint aswell!
(have no pictures of them off the bike, sadly!)

this is right after they were back from paint!

It was still missing, a better exhaust, so i had to finish that aswell :)

I just love the yellow color. And the speedo and tacho look brand new. Or did you have the dials refurbished. Please tell us more about what you've done to the bike.

No, wait, what ??? you painted a pristine 92 body into a gloss black - one among a billion ???

OK atleast it wasn't a blue one ...

Gold frame ??? you're going for a bike that looks good in a photo negative ??? Well flat black would have worked better, I've done that sorta BS ... its decent. Over flat black a flat blue or flat red works well with the frame in shiny speckled silver.

Cool.
Buddha.

Hope the links work in the edit version!

It's easy to embed Imgur pictures. In Imgur, click the three dots next to Copy link. Then click Get share links, and then copy the BBCode (Forums) link.

You can also edit the code to add display width, like so: (https://i.imgur.com/HFhljuU.jpg)

This is the result.
