Title: cylinder head leaking, what's next?
Post by: LaFe09 on March 15, 2021, 05:23:40 AM
So i got this problem and it's getting worse, to fix it i need to change the gasket right?
Can i change the gasket just by lifting the head , cleaning the surfaces and put the new gasket in?
Because i've read you need new pistons ring and cylinder hooning

p.s sorry, leaking from cylinder head,

If you give cryptic descriptions, expect cryptic answers.  ???

Where is it leaking and what is it leaking? If it's leaking oil from the valve cover, just replace the gasket and be done with it. What is the mileage?

If it's leaking oil (or compression) from the cylinder head/cylinder joint, then a new gasket after proper cleaning of the surfaces will suffice. But... while you're doing all that work ... and if the bike has done a lot of mileage, it may be prudent to replace the rings as well - while you're at it. And a valve grind job too.

Is it @valve cover or @cyl head ?
Cool.

Really really doubt its cyl head. The oil gets everywhere - make sure you're not cracking it open via misdiagnosis. The thing will sneeze and spit if its leaking at cyl head. This is air cooled, no water hiding the problem.

that's where it leaks, the blue marks are were i find trace of oil but it's a really small amount, it's only wet of oil , not dripping

Get the engine steam washed so it's clean of oil. Then pinpoint the leak location while running the engine.

I'd try retorquing the head bolts first, that solved my base gasket leak.

I will go with that :thumb:

leaking base gasket is a common issue, seen loads of them  :dunno_black:

The head bolts are supposed to be re-torqued at 1000 miles on the shakedown service ............. it never happens  :dunno_black:

can too tight head bolt cause leak? or only if the are too loose??

Too tight can cause the freaking thing to warp.
Really really doubt you're there kid. Just check if it is from the head and not valve cover/tach drive.
BTW the head torqueing - yea 15K procedure, and very very good call guys (moe_tunes and SK racing both great ideas). Definite thing to check. Yea put desenex foot powder on the motor after cleaning it. You will see where it gets wet first and not have the oil just flow all over.

Head gasket leak GS'es are 1 in a minion ... so all us minions have never seen em LOL.

Just saw this. I thought I had a cylinder leak too. Same oil pattern as OP.

I was wrong.

Check your exhaust bolt torques.
