Has anyone here moved "up" from a GS and then went back to another GS?
I've had my '03 R6 for only a month and even though I love it and it's a sweet machine, I am not one who can't look back at a GS.... I can so picture myself going back to one after I sell the 6 in the fall.... I only wanted to keep it for a season to "experience" a supersport before moving on to a more practical bike.

Hmm, that's a tough one, and I may not qualify, since I owned the Yamaha 650 Maxim, 550 Vision, FZR400 and Triumph 750 before I owned a GS.

a lot of people do that...it's easy to work on, low cost, easy on gas and everything else
I bought a ZX-6E, and crashed it before I could sell the GS. Every time I ride the GS, I wish it was the ZX6E. Actually, the GS is a lot of fun to thrash around town with, but I did a quick 65 mile trip this weekend, and hated it. The GS is so uncomfortable, and it totally blows on the freeway. If I had my way, I'd buy another sport-touring type sportbike, like the ZZR600, and keep my GS for commuting in between cars.

Well I love the GS especially when the guys on the R6's and 954's come up to me with a :? expression after a run through the twisties wondering how the hell I do it so fast. The GS is an absolute blast in its own domain. Once the road straightens out, and everyone overtakes you, that's when you wish it would be faster but I've gotten over that.
The other thing I didn't mention is with the R6, all I'm doing is wheelies all over the place. I can't control myself on that bike, hehe. I need something that will restrain me. The other day, in a 4-hour period, I went from 2-second 1st gear wheelies to 100m ones in 2nd gear. Then within that same timeframe I blasted by a cop on a highway at 240kph, then had to run from another after he blocked me in while I was stopped at the lights. Hell Spring's not even here yet!
I need a bike that will let me chill and relax.

Yes I have, in a matter of speaking. My first street bike was a 1978 GS400, purchased new in 1979. It possessed many of the same positive and negatve traits as the GS 500; Decent handling and fun to ride despite soft suspension and cold-naturedness. And yes, even the stock tires were s**t.
When I looked for another bike this summer, I actually came across a ragged '78 GS400, and a considerably cleaner KZ400 SOHC twin. As much as owning a bike is sort of a trip back in time to simpler days for me, I decided it was better to invest in more modern engineering. :cheers:
Ive been ripping up a ZX-9R, but keep getting back on the lil' ol GS. That all ends soon though. Hopefully its leaving the garage once and for all bound for a new home with another forumer. Replaced by a new SV650S, that is happily waiting to be ridden.
