So the last couple times I took my bike in for an annual tune up, the shop has vehemently reminded me that eventually my engine is gonna go. It's an 04 gs500f with like 14k miles, so that's a bit disheartening. I'll drop a vid of the engine sound. Would it even be worth it to find another engine for it like they said? I've been reading through a couple topics here about similar experiences, but I figured I'd just go ahead and post about it and see what the community has to offer. :)

Has the shop said why they think the engine is on its last leg? Have you/they checked the valve clearances, and the camshaft journal? Can you tell if the knock is coming from the cylinder head, or lower part of the engine?
Thi sis what my walking cam sounded like until I put a shimmed washer on the end. I did not need to noting will happen.

Yours is much more regular though.
Buy one of these (screwdriver never worked for me), they are about 10 bucks.

I mean...I generally get the feeling that they don't like me there tbh lol. Most of what they take in is vintage harleys and stuff. I've never seen another Suzuki in that shop. A Kawasaki or two but yea
If this is "cam-walk" noise you can diagnose it by leaning the bike far over to the left while idling. If it gets quieter, it's just cam noise and doesn't do any harm.
