The outlet in the middle of the underside of the tank should have a tube that drains down towards the ground. You can route it any way you like, as long as it won't get pinched or caught in anything. It's for water or spilled gas around the filler cap.

These should help you out with the rest of the lines/routing:

Thank you for quick response. I will get stuff done now. :D One other question. Is it a bad idea to put a fuel filter inline?

You're very welcome!

Inline fuel filters is a debated topic. Some people say they are restrictive and can get blocked/dirty and cause problems so they aren't worth it.

I personally had one on my bike that the PO installed... ran with it for a few years and had no problems. Then when it came time for new lines, I chucked it (it broke) and didn't replace it. Still haven't had any problems.

There is a filter attached to the tank petcock that sits inside the tank... so there's that. I personally feel that that one is good enough.

It will run for a few moments on starting fluid so I pray my carb rebuild will work. I had to buy another carb because the original had a frozen jet that wouldnt come out. It isnt easy to find carbs for those.

with filters, size matters. large = flow more. Even when half blocked. Not so much room in a GS500 to put big ones.

and the other problem is hose routing, you're much more likely to kink a hose putting it all back together if there's a fuel filter in there.

That said, I do have a fuel filter I might try to put on mine. Just trying to increase the carb cleaning intervals.

Kinking yes. I immobilized my SRX250 with nice fat new clear lines and fancy filters.

Thank you again. Another question? What is the open position for the tank petcock? I turned it back and forth and it seems to be in the middle but that doesnt seem right?

tank petcock, slot vertical is open.

Vac line connects to the left carb, had a vacuum port facing inward. Same port in the right carb is internally blocked off. Don't kink or restrict this line!

I tried but can't make sense of the world's biggest picture. Look up the hose diagram.

Ok thanks, I got all the line hooked up and went to start it and had no luck at first except for ether. I discovered the line to carbs was kinked#!!#$#. After fixing that problem it began to purr but now it revved up a few times and then after that it wouldnt go past 4000 rpm and a backfire here and there and it seems to be starving for fuel. I just rebuilt both carbs and they were clean. The fuel lines are a little long.

open the carb drain at the bottom (with petcock on prime) check you have enough flow into a measured cup, I for get what is normal, maybe 200 ml per minute needed for WOT. IF you get close that that suply is not your problem.
